06/7/2020 19:25 | Saltaire, I suggest you go watch a really good machinist in action. There's no way it takes them 30 minutes to knock out an £8 garment. I'd be amazed if it took more than 10 minutes. And as for losing the price advantage, they'll just source the clothes from somewhere even cheaper and increase the carbon footprint. Winner. | mauricemonkey

06/7/2020 19:15 | Investor, I hear and understand your level headed comments. I am long in BOO and have BOOBlue eyes as they say. I too think it will blow over however if there is more truth than fake truth then it shouldn’t blow over tbh, it does need a full in depth investigation. Also, my daughters are early and mid twenties, both Boo buyers, professional careers, bot both would be shocked tbh if the truth outweighs the fake truth. Social media is both a maker and destroyer. With today’s current climate, the bottom of this scandal needs to be ascertained. Still massively blue but not with rose tinted glasses! | ovenman

06/7/2020 17:47 | I assume that bought in goods will be their biggest direct cost with marketing the second biggest (it may be the other way around but I assume buying stock will certainly be one of their biggest direct costs). The cost price of those bought in goods will be determined by the direct cost of the materials and the labour overhead paid by the supplier together with the supplier’s margin. Let’s say that the direct cost of the materials amounts to say 33% of the cost of the garment and the supplier is on a 5% margin. That means that wages make up the other 62% of BOO’s biggest direct cost. If suppliers in future have to pay minimum wage, they will have to inflate their wages cost by x2.5 times (8.75/3.50= 2.5). So, say for example (and this is just made up numbers for illustrative purpose)a garment costs BOO £8.00 to purchase. The £8.00 breaks down as follows: £0.40 supplier margin £2.64 materials £4.96 wages In the new world, where the supplier has to pay minimum wage, the labour cost increases x2.5. So in this example the cost shoots up 2.5x£4.96 = £12.40. It makes the garment cost price to BOO £15.44. It makes a massive difference. Now my numbers in this example are undoubtedly wrong. I’ve plucked them out of the air to illustrate a point but the basic premise is sound. BOOs massive advantage in this game is price, and I think they’ve just lost that advantage.
