Boohoo (BOO) has been constantly plagued by the serious allegations about its supply chain and its buying practices that emerged in July 2020. UK suppliers were accused of paying staff illegally low wages and exposing them to unnecessary Covid-19 risks.

During the past year, Boohoo’s share price has fallen by around 45% which includes a huge 10% drop when the half yearly, Interim Results were announced on 30 Sep 2021.



The Leicester supplier scandal caused fund manager Aberdeen (ABDN) and other ESG focused shareholders to sell and divest, citing concerns that Boohoo’s response to events was wholly inadequate.

The impact of the slave labour supply scandal and the three ongoing US Class Action lawsuits in California are likely to keep the Boohoo share price low for some time.

Boohoo’s growth rates slowed significantly in the second quarter of 2021, due to consumer uncertainty and a huge increase in goods being returned, following the re-opening of traditional high street retailers.

Worryingly UK sales, usually the group’s biggest revenue driver, only grew by 19% in the second quarter compared to 50% in the first quarter.

In North America, growth collapsed from 43% to just 8% primarily due to the fact that Chinese fast fashion rival SHEIN, has been taking market share away from Boohoo.
