cerrito: I see that with Friday's share price fall the discount is about 23%, which of course was the norm in years gone by. In fact that as they pointed out in the interims with the June valuation is quote largely unquote based on March valuations, the true NAV and hence the true discount may be lower. While I note that the level of undrawn committments at £140m is in line with the recent past, they did of course gear themselves up in H2 19 and as they point out the liquidity of their portfolio is less than normal so I do rather scratch my head and ask if they are not a bit exposed here. My reading of the Going Concern statement is that they seem relaxed on this. Anyone have any views?? No reason to sell but for me little incentive to add even at Friday#s price.
cerrito: I have had a quick read of the prelims. People may want to read the outlook statement of the Fund Manager which as one would expect from him is carefully thought out and sober. Good that he reminds us what can be easily overlooked in these days-the Brexit risk. My reading is they do not have enough US assets to benefit much from the FED activities. At a mid price of 347 I find these a tad expensive though doubt I will organize myself to sell the small amount I have at the moment.
cerrito: If anyone can explain the price gyrations of what is a pretty conservative private equity fund, they are better than me. Kicking myself for not buying more in the 230's. Confused as to why it is so high. Explanations welcome
skyship: Finally sanity setting in as BPET finally topples from its absurd premium. Now at 392 and headed back to 360p or lower...
vacendak: Beffudled as you are. When the markets wobble because of that flu virus, people seem to seek refuge in BPET. It makes no sense but it works for me! :) More seriously there must have been some previously uncut gems that got polished of late. They do not talk much, the factsheets are one per quarter.
cerrito: Thanks vacendak for setting up this thread. Thanks vacendak for setting up this thread. I have had a look at the interims. A good solid performance and good that at the time of writing the report the discount was down to 5.7pc. I have reduced my exposure over the last couple of years for a variety of reasons. Given all the uncertainties I have no urge to buy in at these prices. They do provide protection against a weak £. A 5pc deval gives a £7.2m capital gain-or at least it did at year end 2018.Note that at 12 .18 just over half the assets were in non £ currencies at £164m with a euro 30m loan. £108M of these assets were in Euros and £42m in US dollars. Thus the current FX rates are useful for BPET but not enough for me to go back in. I will continue to follow.
vacendak: Ooops. Sorry, I also created a new BPET thread earlier and did some bad copy/paste. This one should be better: I will have a look to see if I can remove this thread. [edit] No, can't do. No delete button even for the creator of the thread.

An established and experienced team, with a continually expanding network, has successfully focused and continues to focus their efforts on building an appropriately diversified portfolio of high quality assets for the Company’s shareholders. The Company’s portfolio is comprised of private equity funds and stakes in individual private businesses, which have been carefully selected with a view to generating capital growth over the medium to long term as well as a predictable and attractive dividend for current and future shareholders now and in the decades to come. We invest in a diverse spread of private equity investments principally through exposure to specialist private equity funds and co-investments in individual companies. In particular we seek to identify private equity managers with a proven ability to make excellent absolute returns over the medium to long term. We also aim to provide shareholders with a predictable and above-average dividend funded from a combination of revenue and realised capital profits." BPET used to be FPEO (F&C Private Equity).
