Doing my usual end of year portfolio review so been through the BMY figures again.

Market forecasts, which they also quoted in their interims, look like being miles behind the news and set up to be beaten.

They've put out a trading statement in late Jan in the last two years so would expect one in a month or so, and would be disappointed if it wasnt an 'ahead of' statement.

Will be interesting to see what they say about cash levels and/or either M&A or special dividends. Cash is just over 10% of market cap and I can't see that they need more than that.

TV series to be made; not mentioned this morning but will no doubt further increase sales.

Theie tone is IMHO always a bit pompous/superior and they don't take many questions but the business appears to be going great guns, particularly on the digital resource side. The only downside mentioned for H2 vs H1 is the absence of a new Sarah J Maas book in the period.

Currently adult and reference books are a bit of a waste of time but childrens books and the academic side are both strong with the latter growing very quickly... ...long may it continue.

I've just watched the replay and it did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm for the company. There was the mention that the consumer division might have a softer second half due to a tough comparative but there were many more positives than negatives, from my perspective.

Interims look very decent - growth and margin expansion at the same time.

Plenty of cash on the balance sheet; could do with putting that to work.

Market expectations look very very beatable so would expect a RNS in that regard early in the new year

Having only recently bought in to Bloomsbury , so not knowing the Company very well , I had wondered why the share price dropped yesterday , then realised that yesterday was ex-dividend day , when shares of all companies usually drop . Nice to see that , even if one holds only one Bloomsbury share , there are generous discounts for shareholders for many of their products .

The 30% target margin was for BDR (apologies upfront if you knew that), last FY profit margin (I'm assuming pbt) was 36.5%, so guess their target is as you say EBITDA.....who knows, their slide deck for results wasn't too clear - IMO they should have segmented BDR to show what they think growth will be (don't know if it's detailed more in the actual RNS).

Regarding the 30% margin target which they mentioned, how do people interpret that? EBIT or EBITDA?

If its EBIT then they're either going to have to substantially increase gross margins (e.g. by over 10 % points) or hold overhaeds flat for 5 years

I like to see companies communicate long-term targets as it at least given an investor some clue on how maagement are thinking...welcome any views on the interpretation of the 30%

Just catching up on the investormeetcompany presentation.

I say this as a holder, but the CEO and CFO are very, very dry presenters. I dont want to invest in companies where the CEO has the personality of game show host and comes across as untrustworthy....but jeez they're a tough listen!

Shanklin - I thought that BDR has the most potential to re-rate this stock, but the business is firing on all cylinders. They seem to have redeveloped the knack of picking winners. Penny Scott-Bayfield has been instrumental in improving investor communication. Intend to add on any weakness over the Summer.

BDR looks like by far the highest quality aspect of BMY so should probably be the primary focus for future investment.

Some good stuff in the InvestorMeet presentation so far - giving me confidence on continued growth and increasing dividend. Interesting focus on the Digital performance - well worth listening to. Recurring subscription revenue in BDR is v encouraging even in a recessionary environment.

Dave, you can always e-mail the company or you may get to speak to the CFO
if you call head office, probably quite busy this week would guess.

EIThanks, could be HP, possible economies of scale then but still doesn't answer why Adult Rev increased on a par with Children but pbt more than halved, so margins massively hit more than usual despite HP.Am looking to get in, May buy first tranche today!.
