Jasper Yes but everything in a vertical window including widescreen video and text boundaries
Use Canva to format
Lovely results and great for Canva users who are very limited in what they can do with video |
NickB - one request…please don’t post this to the Discord chat. Posting all these workarounds telling people they need to use third party apps to achieve what they want and expect to achieve in elevate.io (and will be able to achieve soon) kind of just shows it in a bad light. |
it was 1080 tall, right?
if I bring in a 1080w by 1920h video, it defaults to 16:9 with black bands either side |
Elevate exports into the number one video format for the web
Why should investors pay for other formats?
Pay version could have others, why not put in a request?
Interestingly a new video format called SPARK from Blackbird is on the horizon 😀 |
So I have just edited a vertical video in elevate!
Made a simple template guide lines with the new shape generator
I had a mixture of 16x9 horizontal video and vertical video I was able to re frame the horizontal video for vertical format Added some text within the vertical confines
Export that then imported into free Canva which every creator has
Added some Canva graphics at the beginning Canvas strength Exported the video
Perfect results
Canva reminded me it has VERY poor video playback
So just one extra step to do
Marketing wise lets tell all 16 million Canva users about doing their video editing in elevate and design graphics in Canva, very powerful |
@all, you do know Blackbird pro editor has every tech any editor could ever want?
Elevate is consumer spin off of the pro, if anything is needed to be added if needed.
I think they may be fishing for a few "partnerships add ons" to save with certain things.
Eva was vertical if that helps.

I'm sure Blackbird can add ALL the functions you require, but they can't do everything at once. Also some functions do require larger resources, they can't give these resources away for free. Wait and see what you get for your money rather than expecting everything from the free version. |
Just to say it's trivial to export in different formats. I don't know why bird have restricted it (maybe cost of many users?) but it's not a technical challenge.
I don't know why either mcsean, but I doubt it will gain any traction until they do
everyone will carry on using Adobe, Canva etc |
Jasper Agreed 😀 |
Chris
Why grin and bear it?
elevate is already fantastic and powerful in the right hands.
I just built a 16 track video wall in a browser! We used to do those tests to find system breakdown points in Avid, elevate is impressive if you look at the wider picture rather than the blinkered vertical one😂 |
slapping on a few vertical pictures
you don't get it, that's fine |
Jasper
Vertical video is coming.
Now make a 5 -10 min documentary style promotional film for the hotel for YouTube perhaps a visit from a YouTube influencer, elevate would be perfect for that, marketing will have to build story, the days of slapping on a few vertical pictures are going to be over soon. |
Jasper the donkey,
Just to say it's trivial to export in different formats. I don't know why bird have restricted it (maybe cost of many users?) but it's not a technical challenge. |
The fact is that we are in the dark about when the paying versions will actually be released though we were told by the end of Q1. We are also even more in the dark about what each price level will do and whether there are any as yet undisclosed applications that may be kept back for the release date. So it's a case of grin and bear it. |
I can do it now NickB
You're a marketer for a boutique hotel in the Lake District - you've commissioned your videography, and you've got some lovely drone stuff at 4k and in log format, you've got close in 50mm stuff shot on a Sony SLR
what would you use to edit and re-format that into the various social media channels and aspect ratios / resolution ?
You've got to generate 20 short form videos etc for stories, LinkedIn, paid ads
elevate.io can't do any of this, and it's I'm guessing, the biggest market out there

I gave you the list of features in a post yesterday it’s pretty solid
They have a roadmap and I suspect they don’t develop one feature then move on to the next many are developing at the same time. What is very obvious is the quality of engineering they don’t release buggy features unlike other editing companies.
They also don’t do short cuts which might be okay on day one but take the design down a blind alley later.

Interesting discussion (and speculation) this morning.
Investing is a waiting game.
In Sumit we trust.
££££ not pence. |
I think they're engaging more with users to get ongoing feedback as they're now ready to add features quicker. If they'd done this 6 months ago things would've turned pretty stagnant. Reaching out to that reddit group is marketing in itself as they're trying to get in a bunch of early adopter type people (people following an alpha/beta testing group) - probably good for spreading the word. 18k on that group. |
It would be very odd to assume the reason they are asking for views and testers prior to launch in 8 weeks, and after 2 years of group sessions and testing, is because they know the answers and don't need to do it at all. |
Not really but it’s great insight for marketing if nothing else
I imagine when designing a product you have to be careful not to have too many voices telling you how it should be!
You have to have a product visionary in our case it’s Sumit, and he absolutely has the vision imho |
Excellent Jasper I knew you would take the bait, can you do a post tomorrow on that theme, I hope so. |
What is tomorrow’s worry theme so I can get ahead?😀
no-one's going to use it |
