Income-seekers are not flocking to buy the shares. I think there are several reasons for that.

One is that Georgia’s economy is closely tied to that of Russia, and Russia isn’t exactly on glowing terms with some of its neighbouring states. So there have to be concerns about political stability in the region.

Markets have a big downer on banks in general too, and I can’t help feeling that institutional investors see banks in these states as being higher risk. But I think that’s a mistake, and I reckon Bank of Georgia could have a far more profitable decade ahead of it than the UK’s big banks.

Profitwise the Bank of Georgia actually stands on a p/e of less than 6.

They put by GEL 38.7mln in relation to a 3 month payment holiday on principal and interest to their retail banking clients, however interest continues to accrue on the loans.

They also put by GEL 220.2mln in their ECL provision against the negative impact on the credit risk of their borrows due to Covid.

1. These are one-off provisions.

2. The full amount of these provisions may not come to pass and therefore some of this may very well be returned as a positive to the balance sheet at a future date.

I see it has a very high p/e and very highly geared although the lattermight be normla for a bank whose business is lending.

wow , risky to buy as chart shows a clear short and medium term downtrend and seems to drop every day with 730 next chart support level . Must be problems which we are blissfully unaware of and insiders are and will be shorting the stock .

I think a few more people have heard of Lloyds or Barclays then they have of the Bank of Georgia.

Unlike many UK private retail investors c25% of my portfolio is invested outside of the UK stock market while a further c35% of my portfolio is invested in stocks quoted on the FTSE who have 100% of their operations outside of the UK.

Hi loganair I've taken my first position here over last couple of days. Looks great value here just surprised there isn't more interest. Very quiet here.

"Bank of Georgia Group looks a terrific value buy right now. Covid-19 will dent economic growth in the emerging market in the near term, but the long-term outlook remains robust. Georgian GDP per capita grew at a meaty average of 4.8% between 2010 and 2019, according to the World Bank. At current prices, Bank of Georgia trades on a low forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio below 6 times."

how much does directors take from the company every year? The trust keeps buying back shares to meet rewards to directors and if this goes every year at this rate it can take up a large chunk of the company.

I've only ever heard good things about this company. Mind you I've only started looking at Bank of Georgia a year ago.

1/4 of my portfolio is invested in Russian companies including Sberbank, so why not Georgia as well. I am also heavily invested in Brazilian companies which has just come out of its worse recession for 100 years.

Cheers bud I don’t mind keeping the lost gems to myself 🐒 a lot of good companies out there but people are blinded at times and are like sheep on certain companies and dodgy broker comments
