Stevie, although coinbase is seen as easy entry and has a nice ui there are a number of downsides not least selling data to authorities. Maybe explore coinfloor UK. A respected exchange that also self audits. Once you have bought on an exchange it is encouraged to self custody(hard wallet) as soon as you can. Also suggest checking out bitcoin podcasts including once bitten tales from the crypt and bit buy bit to name a few

Stevie, The easiest is probably an exchange something like Coinbase.

You can set up a direct payment from your UK bank, then hold the cash and buy your BTC (or a few others) as and when you are ready, although fees can be a few % (not a problem if you are simply buying to hold). If you open a Coinbase-Pro account it has much reduced fees (0.5%) and allows you to place limit orders; much better if you intend trading. I think it's easier to use as well.

Once you have your bitcoin you can either leave it in your CB/CB-Pro account - a bit like holding shares in a nominee account, where you are at risk of the platform collapsing, etc), or you can transfer them to your own "wallet" for a small nominal fee, in which case you are responsible for ensuring your own security (and with NO comeback should you lose your wallet details).

I'm happy to keep my cryptos (about 1 BTC equiv.) in my CB-Pro account since I occasionally swap them around. Others will probably chip-in to advise about opening your own wallet.

Good luck - I think you are wise to diversify a little of your savings into this novel facility - there are plenty of useful videos on U-tube, etc., to give you more info about crypto's, from the basics to the MUCH more detailed stuff..

Hi all
Genuine question having just found this thread, if I wanted to buy a bitcoin (one Bitcoin) which would be 12K USD (ish) or the GBP equivalent, where is the best platform to buy this please.
I have ZERO knowledge about this, I want one as I bought Gold and Silver 4yrs ago, as an investement not to trade or spend. TIA

Let's see if I understand this halving situation...

The number of rewards are now cut in half. This is likely to force many of the miners out of mining activity, so it should get easier to "solve" the block to maintain the 10 minute block creation time. It could also increase the "fee" requirement.

But since most of the miners probably need to sell most of their newly awarded coins to fund their operating expenses (principally electricity), then the number of NEW coins coming on to the market will approximately halve. Assuming the HODLERS keep holding, then unless the demand from the buyers drops, the price will have to rise to tempt the Hodlers to sell.

Anyone else got a different view...?

Don't know what you guys are doing, I have been flipping most of my crypto back to BTC apart from a few interesting plays.

We have gold but yet to find silver IMO.

Massive manipulation / fraud by at least one exchange. Once again zero chance there will be any regulated products appearing on proper exchanges.
