If GBP keeps selling off it may be tough to make much headway.

Hi Phil, will have a look again Monday.
Near £20 here would not surprise me though,
but can't call a low, so better to buy in small stages.

Unless the Primark model goes ex growth, with increasing online competition,
17x times looks reasonable. It may be cheap longer term.

Really think the valuation largly rests on Primark continuing to perform,
all be it sugar is a short term sentiment killer.

Afternoon EI , been trying out my new extendable pole hedge cutter , very good indeed.

Checked out the portfolio to find I'm back to all square for 2018 . Would have done just as well not wasting my time in front of a screen 😊

Hi Phil, yes agree, however there will always be a cyclical element
to any commodity.
What looks to be weighing atm is FX re Primark margins, agree sugar has not helped.
Think you need to go back to around 2012? for a multiple this low on ABF.

EI , sugar a big part of the problem at the moment I reckon.

The central valuation rests on this - can the Primark model continue to
thrive in a clothing market that increasingly migrates online.
Primark margins do not translate to an online model.

If you think it can, then 17x looks interesting,
all be it the recent years of huge EPS growth is in the past.

The food side will largely take care of itself.

LONDON (Alliance News) - Stock prices in London closed higher on Tuesday as the UK market catches up with peers following Monday's holiday, as AB Foods slid in the large cap index following a major fire at a Belfast Primark store.

Primark has issued a statement following a major fire in Belfast on Tuesday.

The store on Royal Avenue caught fire at around 11am.

Firefighters have been tackling the huge blaze for hours, with parts of the city centre closed off.

There are no reports of any injuries.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, Primark CEO Paul Marchant said: " We are deeply shocked and saddened by the fire today at our Bank Buildings store in Belfast city centre.

"The safety and wellbeing of our customers, colleagues and construction team is of course the most important consideration and we are truly relieved that all were evacuated safely.

"We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response and ongoing actions.

"Our store is housed in an iconic building and much loved by the people of Belfast.

"We would like to reassure our customers, colleagues and the wider community in Belfast that we are committed to working with the authorities and our building contractors to establish the cause of the fire

"We are working closely with our team in Belfast to ensure they are fully supported during this challenging period. We would like to thank everybody for their support during this difficult time."

Market report:

Alliance News..

On the downside, Associated British Foods fell as Citi cuts its FY19 and FY20 earnings per share forecast on sugar pricing and FX. However, the bank, which has a 'buy' rating on ABF, said Primark remains one of its favourite retail formats.

Everyone in finance gets overdone, buying and selling, you need to realise panic selling presents the best buying opportunities and panic buying presents the best way to lose money.

Be GREEDY when OTHERS ARE FEARFUL. ABF is oversold, it's a screaming buy. This is nothing but panic selling, Mr Market swinging into fear. Load up boys (and girls).

Much better to have someone posting a cautionary view,
if everyone is positive on a particular stock, that's often a time to sell.

May be worth noting because of the 51% controlling stake,
ABF does not enjoy large II holdings a UKX stock usually would.
As a result share price movements can be rapid in either direction.
