LONDON (Alliance News) - Stock prices in London closed higher on Tuesday as the UK market catches up with peers following Monday's holiday, as AB Foods slid in the large cap index following a major fire at a Belfast Primark store. HTTPS://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/news/alliance-news/detail/1535472286419139700.html Primark has issued a statement following a major fire in Belfast on Tuesday. The store on Royal Avenue caught fire at around 11am. Firefighters have been tackling the huge blaze for hours, with parts of the city centre closed off. There are no reports of any injuries. In a statement on Tuesday evening, Primark CEO Paul Marchant said: " We are deeply shocked and saddened by the fire today at our Bank Buildings store in Belfast city centre. "The safety and wellbeing of our customers, colleagues and construction team is of course the most important consideration and we are truly relieved that all were evacuated safely. "We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response and ongoing actions. "Our store is housed in an iconic building and much loved by the people of Belfast. "We would like to reassure our customers, colleagues and the wider community in Belfast that we are committed to working with the authorities and our building contractors to establish the cause of the fire "We are working closely with our team in Belfast to ensure they are fully supported during this challenging period. We would like to thank everybody for their support during this difficult time." HTTPS://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/belfast-primark-fire-statement-issued-15083327

Market report: Alliance News.. On the downside, Associated British Foods fell as Citi cuts its FY19 and FY20 earnings per share forecast on sugar pricing and FX. However, the bank, which has a 'buy' rating on ABF, said Primark remains one of its favourite retail formats.

Everyone in finance gets overdone, buying and selling, you need to realise panic selling presents the best buying opportunities and panic buying presents the best way to lose money.

Be GREEDY when OTHERS ARE FEARFUL. ABF is oversold, it's a screaming buy. This is nothing but panic selling, Mr Market swinging into fear. Load up boys (and girls).

Much better to have someone posting a cautionary view, if everyone is positive on a particular stock, that's often a time to sell.

May be worth noting because of the 51% controlling stake, ABF does not enjoy large II holdings a UKX stock usually would. As a result share price movements can be rapid in either direction.

Reference Belfast fire - Everyone is declared safe which is good news The performance has been in decline for 10 months now 30% ish loss It's a chicken & egg business Sugar/food element is very poor Primark is flat on like for like sales - keeping adding footage & you will take more cash in site A but lose some in sites B, C & D etc = cannibalization - huge store due to open in Birmingham in December will affect/kill 8/10 surrounding stores Primark sales cannot influence the performance of sugar & food yet it needs sugar & food to perform for continued investment I truly believe that unless something dramatically happens within the sugar market ABF will have 'peaked' a good few years ago & will now remain fairly flat between 1800 to 2800 Watch this space!

Jefferies eyes ‘ideal opportunity’ to buy ABF Jefferies has maintained its ‘buy’ rating on Associated British Foods (ABF) ahead of a market update from the food group and Primark owner next month, believing the bad news surrounding the stock to be priced in. ‘ABF’s 10 September pre-close update should reiterate ongoing sugar pricing pressures and pre-empt input challenges to Primark’s margin,’ said analyst James Grzinic. ‘We believe the shares already price in these commodity-related, temporary challenges. We remain on ‘buy’ and believe current conditions represent an ideal opportunity for fundamental investors to get involved.’ Grzinic cut his estimates of Primark’s margins, resulting in his target price falling from £32 to £28, still ahead of yesterday’s £23.20 share price. He has pinned his ‘buy’ case on potentially improving margins and international expansion for Primark, an easing of the European sugar market and the shares’ ‘valuation attraction’, on less than 17 times 2019 earnings.
