do shein have a sustainable business model? i wonder how much money they make (or lose, more to the point) on the average order if they are competitive with primark on price. returns on online clothes are very high (around 25% for women's clothing, compared to 8% in store).

ADVFN Market report:

Footfall at UK retail destinations rose last week as workers returned to the office, according to research from retail analysts Springboard.

Footfall was up 2.7% from the week before, with high streets seeing a 3.7% jump, while footfall at shopping centres and retail parks rose 2.3% and 0.9%, respectively.

In central London and large city centres outside of London, footfall was 6.5% and 6.1% higher, respectively, while the areas of central London dominated by offices saw an 8.8% increase.

However, both outer London and market towns across the UK, which have benefited from home working, saw footfall rise by just 1.5%.

“Footfall in UK retail destinations last week rose from the week before, which is the first rise in the past four weeks and a particularly positive result as footfall declined in the same week in both 2019 and 2020,” said Diane Wehrle, insights director at Springboard.

“Footfall rose in all three destination types, but by far the greatest uplift occurred in high streets, where the increase was a third higher than in shopping centres and four times as great as that in retail parks.

“High street footfall was undoubtedly supported by a shift back to the office, demonstrated by a greater uplift from the week before in central London and large city centres outside of the capital, than in smaller high streets and in outer London.”

re high street closures, ABF said in recent results that they expect to mop up some of that demand by expanding their range.

'Dismal summer for retail as sales fall for fourth month in a row'

Economists had expected sales to climb by 0.5% but instead they fell by 0.9%, partly blamed on a shift in spending to eating and drinking at restaurants and bars.

OMG you have tlobs on here, fresh from losing half his money on easyjet ( should have listened to me when Hester was appointed ) sell sell, this guy knows how to pick a winner, NOT…. but is a classic Primani customer I would imagine, taking his fat charity fxxk wife and web toed special needs kids to kit them all out for 11.50 before heading to Benidorm. What a muppet.

ABF far too late to digital, will get taken out and broken up on directionless share price, same as pretty much the entire ftse 100 dog index of the world.

Out at the open as did not like that Primark Q4 trading comment.

Wonder if this is the beginning of Shein etc beginning to take some of their
future growth potential?. Although they say Primark are holding market share there
is considerably less High St completion following a raft of closures,
so that money is clearly going somewhere else and perhaps most likely being spent online.

Could be interesting ..

"..As we look ahead, digital has a critical role to play as part of Primark's marketing mix. We are progressing the initial design and development for the new digital platform and recruitment of new talent to create a new digital capability within the business is underway."

Well, I was waiting for this update. On the whole decent, however as mentioned above the lower than expected sales at Primark will put a negative spin on things.
SP down a bit at the open so I'll just watch for today before deciding on whether to take a stake.

Give me the increased profits rather than turnover any day :-)

The British conglomerate said Primark's adjusted operating profit for the year ending Sept. 18 is expected to be ahead of last year, and that operating margin for the fourth quarter was strong.

The FTSE 100-listed company said adjusted earnings per share are anticipated to be marginally ahead of last year.

Regarding its AB Sugar business, the company said that full-year revenue is expected to be 7% ahead of last year.
