No need for panic. In the most difficult environment seen for years the company is performing well. If you reduce "sales growth" from 4% to 2% it basically means you added 8m in sales instead of 16 million in sales across a 4 billion base. That is peanuts. Meanwhile the stock has lost 80% of its value. This is a steady ship in stormy waters. Disaster priced in but there is no disaster

Evidence is mounting that the UK's cost of living crisis is taking a toll on retailers. ASOS plc has been privately warning City analysts that pre-tax profits for the financial year just ended, will be towards the bottom end of the £20 Million to £60 Million range it gave out back in June.

This represents a massive FALL on ASOS's previous profit forecast of between £110 Million and £140 Million.

ASOS also indicated that total annual sales for 2022/23 were likely to fall well below consensus forecasts, leading one City analyst to say he was "slightly uneasy" at the way ASOS was managing expectations.

New Prime Minister Liz Truss will today announce an emergency package, to cap average household power bills at about £2,500 a year at an estimated cost of £90 Billion over the next two years, with help for businesses costing £60 Billion.

Further increases to wholesale gas prices will push the final bill even higher.

The emergency assistance package will be funded by Government borrowing, adding to concerns about a long and hard recession, rising unemployment, falling living standards and a huge drop in consumer spending.

Shares in UK retailers look likely to be hit the hardest as households are forced to cut their spending and tighten their belts.

PriceCap for me means that the population will have more money to spend (I don't think they will save the money for emergencies) if approved inflation in October forecast is 10% and not 14% as before. I don't like this idea because it solves in the short term (Brazil and Argentina always do this and then the bill arrives) But together with the tax cut it can generate more jobs this is very good, but together with that UK needs more qualified jobs and people as in the area of ​​science, energy and technology. (There are plenty of jobs in these areas here in the UK and around the world attracting qualified people will also attract companies) ex. JGandolfi, an energy PriceCap i doubt will be that helpful to turning the cogs to the economy but if you delve a little bit deeper, you'll find the cost of those basic goods we require daily are not falling as quickly so its rather premature to think that we're back on the road to riches just yet buddy and a reduction of corporation tax would be great except revenue has fallen significantly and it continues to at ASOS.
