03/8/2018 07:34 | Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan could very easily explain the situation.... after all, they did sell the LME to the Chinese so what do you expect? They don't give a shXt as long as there's a profit it it for themselves! | mrpiggy
02/8/2018 23:09 | Not madness. Just premature...as usual. There was an American economist named Paul Samuelson. One of his famous quotes was about the Dow Jones Index. He said that the stock market had predicted nine out of the last five recessions. | horneblower

02/8/2018 12:10 | Goldman - 'In our view, the company could look to bring on a partner to share the capex load." ' $5.5bn Capex - Considering Russia is a Mafia State run by an ex KGB trained gangster - good luck with that!! | mount teide
02/8/2018 11:19 | Good coverage of KAZ deal at Merrill Lynch: "We struggle to see the logic of a foray outside core competency. Is Kazakhstan really mined out? After several years of upside surprise on execution and strategy, we see today’s news as a major strategy misstep." Goldman Sachs: "The c.US$436mn in cash spend together with the capex spend of c.US$5.5bn will drive up leverage, we estimate to over 3 times by FY22, assuming the capex spend starts in FY19. In our view, the company could look to bring on a partner to share the capex load." Morgan Stanley: "Thus we think this purchase adds considerable uncertainty, and may be a drain on cash for the next 10 years – we do not envisage the company paying a divi for the foreseeable future." | zho

02/8/2018 10:50 | KAZ seems to have shot themselves in the foot buying all that low grade ore. They just hit 635p, a sensible bounce point imo. Great resistance at £6. | horneblower
02/8/2018 10:32 | Well done team, you?ve killed the momentum and knocked the wind out of their sails once again!Jeez..... I was right about that bit, I recon money from the back of the sofa would influence the share price today but I guess we've even exhausted that! | mrpiggy
02/8/2018 10:29 | Abramovitch got the licence for $17m in 2008- hxxps://metalukraine Hadn't spent much by the end of 2016- hxxp://www.russiamin 2018 sells it for $900m | serratia
02/8/2018 08:15 | Zho - the acquisition could be very good for Kaz over the longer term - but short term going into Russia which is effectively a Mafia State with no rule of Law carries considerable risk imo Sold out of Kaz first thing this morning. Edit: Market seems to agree - Kaz now down 10%. | mount teide
02/8/2018 07:10 | KAZ is buying Russian copper miner Baimskaya for $900 million. "Baimskaya is one of the world's most significant undeveloped copper assets with the potential to become a large scale, low cost, open pit copper mine "JORC resources of 9.5 Mt of copper at an average grade of 0.43% and 16.5 Moz of gold at an average grade of 0.23 g/t" I reckon they're paying roughly 4.5 cents per pound. At this valuation 80% of Beutong would be worth more than £140 million, but it's smaller (at the moment) and (presumably) of less interest to a major. | zho
