16/12/2003 08:54 | MM's shorting the very share in which they are making the market, hmmmmm sounds like nice work if you can get it, yet somehow I doubt this would be legal. Always thought trading the UK market was akin to peeing into the wind, but if your theory is true we might as well pack our bags for the Nasdaq now. | nur0mancer
12/12/2003 23:49 | Oh dear - no CEO - doesn't look good for results. Shame and she had so much cash too. G | gazzzz

09/12/2003 17:20 | I do find it incredible that 'ARK, the billion pound market cap new ARM' has been reduced to all time lows and trading at a big discount to cash at a time when we've just seen the biggest time period % move in stock market history ( march til now. ) It does make you wonder what the hell is going on! ...More worryingly, why have there been no bids for ARK ?!!? THAT, is the real question we should ask when trying to value their IP and future prospects. On paper it looks cheap to investors and even cheaper to a predator....on paper!! | mad4it
09/12/2003 17:10 | yes mad4IT ... something has to happen to make investors think this might just grow into a sustainable business. The next results will be important. Sales need to show some growth, or very real chances of growth. | kiwihope
09/12/2003 16:58 | Hmmm! The trouble is that this share has been at a bigger discount to net cash p/share before today and it barely bounced: NC = 34p v 21p share price, subsequently rising to 25p bid ( before share buyback announcement which spiked it higher. ) A similar discount now would put it at about my 12-13p offer price and, using this comparison, the bounce would take it no further than today's 15.5p offer price....and of course the cash has been greatly reduced since then and therefore the risk has greatly increased. I could of course be totally wrong and you may see 20+p if there are unexpected and significant developments. IE: 'BIG' contract wins. | mad4it
09/12/2003 16:50 | I think you are reasonably safe to get your money back at 16p. I may even get it back at 21p! I can't see the large holders just sitting by and watching this disappear. If nothing happens in another 12 months then they may insist on major changes - even voluntary liquidation I guess, and returning the net proceeds to shareholders. It would be drastic but not impossible. It is after all the shareholders who own the company ... not the directors. And there is still the possibility that they may come good ... (a bit like eurodis!) | kiwihope
09/12/2003 16:35 | kiwihope When I tried your ELH ticker I thought it was Eurodisney for a moment, which would have been appropriate for both ELH and ARK... ...they're both Mickey Mouse shares! ;) But seriously folks, the fat lady isn't singing yet, but she's warming up in her dressing room. I reckon a bid or a big contract win out of the blue is the best hope for ARK, otherwise the money will just burn away. But if it falls a bit further I might just have a nibble myself, perhaps 12-13p would represent a decent risk v reward scenario, with tight stops of course. I wish all holders the best of luck, perhaps this dog will have it's day eventually. | mad4it
09/12/2003 14:52 | kiwihope I was lucky with ELH - I wondered about buying last week having watched them for a month or so! But then I was unlucky. I nearly bought at 8p (7.5p-8.0p) - but didn't - bit scared. So easy with hindsight. Hope you come good soon though. | dontknowitall
09/12/2003 14:10 | A couple of buys - at 15.25p. The 15.1p trades are sells. mad4IT ... I'm not ready to write arc off yet. But what do I know ... I've got a pile of eurodis! | kiwihope
09/12/2003 13:06 | I keep trying to warn everyone about this sack of sh*te, but you just wont listen will you! ;) | mad4it

08/12/2003 21:54 | The fact of life is that when a share is absurdly high everyone is brainwashed by its success but when it is low they take the share price as evidence of its worth. Its called the herd instinct. Small wonder that the average investor is bitter and twisted. Believe me I speak from experience and I no longer take any risks ie. I don't bet it all on one horse. All I can say is look at the deals this company has made recently and ask yourself what is the upside and what is the downside. The game is to maintain objectivity in the face of trend. The company could sink or it could explode from here. SanDisk, Sony, Sand Video are definitely not small fry and on the other hand we don't know what these deals are worth. As for analysts... DYOR. | architeuthis

07/12/2003 09:24 | Chips are down at Arc WE first advised readers to sell shares in Arc International (16.25p), the chip designer, a year ago when they stood at 26.5p. Last week, the company announced the resignation of Mike Gullett, the chief executive. His departure came shortly after Arc warned for the third time in a year that revenues would fall short of City forecasts. Some analysts remain unimpressed, arguing that there remain major doubts about the size of Arc's customer base, licence agreements and range of chips. Arc has often been tipped as a potential takeover target. In November 2002 we revealed that Andrew Regan, the colourful entrepreneur, was backing a shareholder revolt at the company which would have forced Arc to return £108m in cash to shareholders. However, with just £40m of cash left and an increasingly discredited strategy we see little chance of a takeover or any chance of renewed shareholder activism. Keep selling. | cheesemonkey

07/12/2003 01:59 | Hi, God this share is a dog, it's driving me mad !! Why are people still selling when it's so far below net cash ? I bought half a million shares at 20p, thinking it was a one-way bet, with the downside risk covered by the cash (albeit with huge cashburn), and unlimited upside if people got excited about the technology. But it now seems nobody is remotely interested in the technology ... if they were, surely Arc would have been bid for by now ? It would cost nothing for a competitor to bid for it - they could offer a useful premium to the current share price, and pay for the bid with Arc's own cash. This surely must lead one to the inevitable conclusion that Arc's technology is worth absolutely nothing, because it won't make any money ??? But despite this, I still feel the valuation is now so low that the merest sniff of interest from anyone should allow a profitable exit. The downside is now surely priced in at 16p a share ??? Cheers, Paul. | paulypilot
05/12/2003 11:05 | No ... I've been consolidating recently ... selling some that have made good profits but I think wont double from here in the next 12 months ... PTI, CKSN, DWM. Increased holdings in SRTS and ELH. Haven't touched ARK yet. Still happy to hold to at least next results. | kiwihope
