Not much discussion on this stock it seems.

I'm long, and I want to try and put pressure on management to return some of the capital on the balance sheet either through return of capital or share buybacks.

flying pig, not sure why you blame the dividend. Big fall started middle of March, div record date was not until 2nd April.
I have now sold out

Is the current weakness driven by fears of how much cash they have in the two failed Cyprus banks? It has certainly caused me to reduce

Although the price is off slightly I think there are plenty of positives in the results:-

Dividend maintained at 1.3p (= yield of 9.3%)
AUM up 0.3% on year and 7.9% in the second half
Excluding bad debt provision, EBITDA up 6.7% to $3.3m
tNAV up from 40.8c to 41.1c (27.6p) despite dividend payment.

Of course there are negatives. AREOF needs sorting out (the figures above assume it will be) and the possible cloud (albeit unmentioned in these results) of further legal action relating to the creation of ARGO still exists. But it's hard not to believe that these are all in the price.

Thks! Argo have responded, but I (like other shareholders) wd like to see a more detailed & tangible response - share buyback appears the most important priority for most shareholders.

If you, or any other shareholder here, is in broad agreement with any/all of the recommendations, I encourage you to reach out to the company also. If you prefer to wait & participate in a follow up, that's fine too - I'd hope to see more progress in due course.

However, I do want to be in proper contact with shareholders for future reference, so I'd appreciate if Argo shareholders here would PLEASE EMAIL ME. There's a contact tab/email on the blog - and here's my email:

thanks for that. I have not had a chance to read in detail, but I certainly agree very much with the idea of getting them to a mello event. have you had any response? will you follow up if you get nothing? I would be happy to participate in the follow up by sending a letter supporting yours.

Looks like some proactive news from Argo

Argo Group Limited ("Argo"), the emerging markets focused investment firm, announces the launch of a new hedge fund - the Argo Local Markets Fund ("ALMF" or "the Fund"). The Fund will seek to invest in a portfolio of bonds and currencies from a universe of over 40 emerging market countries using a long/short approach. It is being launched with an initial US$7m of seed capital.

There is still fear of lawsuits. Although the case which mentioned Argo was dismissed because it didn't fall under US jusristiction (at the time of filing of lawsuit) an appeal on another lawsuit against florian homm (by ACMH) has resulted in a change of USA law on this issue.

The thing is the Court said that people should still be allowed to go forward with damages suits. The question then once judgements are entered from any future potential lawsuits (if any) and the likely big judgement from the current SEC lawsuit, is there any liability on the behalf of ACMH? And if so was the spinoff of Argo a fraudulent transfer? And what would be the statute of limitations on such a transaction? And statute of limitations under which county's rules? UK? Cayman? Cypress?

The new ruling keeps potential legal actions open to new filings although I don't see any new lawsuits. This may be because potential litigants are waiting and letting the SEC case evolve and letting the SEC lawyers uncover all the facts before taking action themselves...?

I don't know the answers to these questions but I think they demonstrate concern on behalf of potential buyers of Argo stock.

There has been a lot of noise lately about the massive fraud that took place and this is likely to increase and it is not the end of the matter (do some googling). The SEC lawsuit is going forward and will likely result in some big headlines and $numbers in the judgement. Also, FT Duetchland had reported recently on a new $1.5 million bounty for information leading to Florian Homm which demonstrates that the people and funds that were defrauded are not just going away quietly and forgetting about recovering their money which is hidden away now. Will any of the them seek to seize ARGO due to potential fraudulent transfer? Probably not, but does a new buyer have to factor this into his purchase?

I think this is why the stock is down imo. The legal issues have not completely gone away. I know it is the reason why I am not adding to my position despite great fundamental valuation metrics. Is it also part of the reason why ARGO has not raised any new funds????

I've been monitoring this since being tempted at 14p last year, but thankfully I held off investing at that point.

I have also been stung by EMG, so am wary of diving in too early while the share price is still falling, but the underlying figures make it look extremely cheap, especially with the high divi yield.
