So is it fair to say that they won’t be digging down towards the polyhalite this year? But they will be digging the subway line ? :

The Woodsmith team is ‘working through the detailed design engineering throughout 2022 and is expected to make a number of changes to the phasing of work, particularly in relation to the two main shafts.’

March 2022 press
‘Anglo American has confirmed 70 redundancies as it moves between construction phases. Workers claim the firm is getting ready to hand over work to "foreign companies with foreign labour" to sink the mine shafts’

How’s the underground commuter line service coming along linking Whitby to Teeside? Oh sorry, I forgot you guys still think it’s for salt rock fertiliser. Fair enough, so how deep is the mine’s services shaft and it’s production shaft ? The production shaft and the services shaft are supposed to be 1500m deep. …but they seem to have been stuck at 120 meters for years….You guys see a mine that doesn’t exist, and I see a train line that does exist. Anyway whatever, my opinions only as always

June 2020
shafts at Woodsmith still at 120m
while the shafts at Woodsmith are completed to 120m depth and work on extending them will re-start later this year.

Aug 2020 - shaft still at 120m

and 4th April 2021 (last sentence)

'there is some risk to that and it is around the shaft timing'

July 2021 RNS
‘At the mine head, shaft boring has started in the services shaft, while good progress is also being made on the production shaft infrastructure’……’ we are also working through the detailed scheduling of the two shaft installations’

24.2.2022 RNS
‘ At the mine head itself, shaft boring has started in the services shaft, while progress is also being made on the production shaft infrastructure.’…………………’ Ahead of the full project execution phase, the Woodsmith team, led by new CEO Tom McCulley, is working through the detailed design engineering throughout 2022 and is expected to make a number of changes to the phasing of work, particularly in relation to the two main shafts. The capital budget for 2022 is therefore expected to be reduced by approximately $0.1 billion to $0.6 billion to accommodate these changes……Anglo American expects that the improvements it is making to the project will result in an enhanced configuration and therefore a different and longer construction schedule. ‘

I love up days. I can live with down days. I just hate days that start very positive and then for no apparent reason just fall like a brick. I hate days when my finger hovers on a sell at 4003 and for some reason I don't take it. It will return but I can't fathom the reason. Maybe everyone else didn't hover and sold at the round number (but some don't believe round numbers are important)Onwards and upwards

Anglo, EDF to build renewables grid

The grid will power 100% of Anglo American’s South African mining operations

Anglo American will work with EDF Renewables to power operations

21 March 2022

Jax Jacobsen

Anglo American has signed a memorandum of understanding with EDF Renewables to build a renewables grid in South Africa.

The grid will power 100% of Anglo American's South African mining operations.

The companies will build a network of on-site and off-site solar and wind farms. In the next decade, the partnership plans to build 3 GW to 5 GW of renewable electricity and storage.

Anglo American said several partners will provide equity financing for the Regional Renewable Energy Ecosystem, in addition to debt financing.

The grid will also assist in the development of new economic sectors in South Africa, as well as local production and supply chains.

Moving towards renewable energy for South African operations will address Anglo American's Scope 2 emissions footprint, chief executive Mark Cutifani said. Electric power is a significant source of the company's Scope 2 emissions.

It complements the company's Future Smart Mining programme, which includes a hydrogen haul truck system and the development of South Africa's Hydrogen Valley. Anglo American aims to be carbon-neutral by 2040.

Anglo American already powers all its South American operations with renewable energy. By 2023, the company expects its global grid supply to be 56% renewable energy.

The move towards renewable energy will also assist South Africa with its Just Energy Transition, Nolitha Fakude, who chairs Anglo American's management board in South Africa, said.

"We intend to incorporate a Black Economic Empowerment [BEE] partner into our regional renewable energy ecosystem and are exploring a range of community partnership models that will allow our host communities to share in the ecosystem's success," Fakude said.

Moving towards its own renewable power network will also protect Anglo American from ongoing power failures in South Africa, an issue that has plagued the country in recent years. In 2021, the country reported a record of 1,150 hours of power outages, Bloomberg reported.

Anglo American PLC said Friday that it has commissioned the Benguela Gem diamond recovery vessel, which will add 500,000 carats of high value diamonds to annual marine production.

The FTSE 100 diversified mining company said that the commissioning, which took place ahead of schedule and below budget, has allowed it to increase annual marine production by around 45% following an investment of around $420 million, of which around $210 million is attributable to the company.

"The commissioning of the Benguela Gem... marks further progress toward Anglo American's margin-enhancing organic growth of more than 20% over the next three years," Chief Executive Mark Cutifani said.

The company said that Benguela Gem is part of the fleet operated by the joint venture between De Beers Group and the government of Namibia.

Anglo American PLC said Friday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Electricite de France SA to develop a regional renewable energy ecosystem in South Africa.

The mining company said this ecosystem will be designed to meet its power needs in South Africa through the supply of 100% renewable electricity by 2030.

"We are targeting carbon neutrality across our operations by 2040 and we are making good progress. Today's announcement is a further major step towards addressing our on-site energy requirements--the largest source of our operational emissions," Chief Executive Mark Cutifani said.
