Range - these two are just rampers. Not the apology for a human being like that nasty pillock known as the EGO.

Mate I've had loads of howlers - as long as you learn and act upon that learning.
That's the difficult thing and something I'm still failing at, lol!

You are of course quite right. If something seems too good to be true, it almost certainly is.
The trouble of course is its easy with hindsight. I won't buy another O & G exploration company in Africa or anywhere else, but no matter how careful I am, I'm bound to invest in another loser.
I just hope I pick two winners for every loser !

Oh well lesson learnt hopefully.
Didn't stop you getting conned into buying AEX though (something also which "seemed" to be too good to be true)!?

My flatmate at the time knew him. That's how I met him originally when he went to extraordinary lengths to con me out of £20. (about a week's wages in those days!)

Ah the old "decent wine" con!
How on Earth did he know where you lived - did he follow you home that first night?
I am sure there is a moral somewhere in that story!

It's a long time ago.
This bloke set up an elaborate 'story' telling me he was a docker and he could get hold of a certain something from Tilbury. I wasn't convinced but went along with it. Gave him £20 so he could get the 'stuff' and not unexpectedly didn't see him again.
Until, 2 years later, he burst into my flat, grabbed the bread knife and threatened to stab me, telling me that he'd been arrested on his way back with the £20 deal, and had been in prison for two years. He was accusing me of dobbing him in. He needed money for a flat deposit etc.
Very convincing, and he was a big bloke.
Amazingly, a friend called by while this was going on and calmly told me not to give this bloke any money. He hadn't been in prison for 2 years because he had conned this same friend out of £50 a couple of months earlier supposedly because he could get decent wine cheap from Tilbury...
