22/8/2007 09:40 | Is this the day for a SIGNIFICANT rise back up? Anyone know the date for interims? | wendsworth
18/8/2007 14:22 | Bluebelle and evo8 : Couldn't resist it and got back in yesterday . Will hold for the medium term as my close monitoring has noted the strength of support for the stock and my research has confirmed tremendous upside potential particularly on the nuclear front. | wendsworth
09/8/2007 09:30 | There has been a bit of a rumour about a tie up with Wood Group Engineering, this and the divestment and refocusnig of the business may be the reasoning for the strong performance. | triguy
09/8/2007 09:10 | I bought them less than a year ago for 320 and had a target that they would double in 3 years. They have done this and more in less than a year against a difficult market. Does anyone know why they have so incredibly strong in the last week? | dextroisomerism
09/8/2007 08:12 | Continued strength. | fredd
15/7/2007 19:47 | Bluebelle and evo8 : Thanks for your thoughtful comments . | wendsworth
13/7/2007 15:01 | Fellow AMEC holders. Agree with your sentiment. Have continued to hold this one since below £3, based on fundamentals. This company has a strong presence in some key areas (eg. wind and nuclear) so is an ideal long-term investment. Learnt my lesson on Weir, where although I made a healthy profit, I sold too soon, even though I knew oil-pump engineering was a growth cert. Interesting that these engineering companies are being increasingly recognised. | evo8
13/7/2007 12:24 | wendsworth We've all done it. I now hold as long as I think the primary upward trend is intact, even if that means watching paper profits fall for a while, but even then get it wrong from time to time. | bluebelle
11/7/2007 20:43 | triguy,FredD and Bluebelle : AMEC was by far and away my best share of the 2006/07 tax year but I got decidedly nervous after such a meteoric rise ( My initial purchase was 364p las Autumn!) once the share hit the 575 to 600p range . I've learnt to my cost ..that a profit aint a profit until you take it! Just goes to show ....its best to stick to one share keep a holding and trade against it. The problem for me now is ....the level to get back in ???!!! Bluebell - Agreed. In that respect the AMEC bb is not too dis-similar to the DE LA RUE bb ......another share I got out of far too early! | wendsworth
11/7/2007 17:59 | The best investments have the quietest threads on bbs. Anyone care to disagree? | bluebelle
11/7/2007 15:47 | bit of a "rumour" of a bid for another company, £2bn was the figure mentioned - don't know anything else about this anyone else in the know??? Anyway looking forward to next years CGT allowance :-) | triguy
11/7/2007 14:59 | "On 9-10 July 2007, AMEC's Natural Resources business will be the subject of a site visit to the Canadian Oil Sands, where analysts and investors will have the opportunity to meet management and learn more about the business and its strategy for growth." Looks like the visit went well............. | fredd
04/7/2007 12:56 | Been taking a bit of profit above 600p, I still can't figure out why the price is still heading north and I work for the company!! | triguy
04/7/2007 10:02 | The share price appears to be defying gravity at present. | wendsworth
30/6/2007 11:55 | wallabybob: I doubt it. If the general market takes a hit ..then at current levels so will AMEC. | wendsworth
18/6/2007 09:00 | ReEnergy Group signs MoU with AMEC for Fibrecycle waste management projects LONDON (Thomson Financial) - ReEnergy Group PLC said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AMEC PLC to collaborate on waste management projects based on the Fibrecycle process owned by its unit Estech Europe Ltd, a 51 pct owned subsidiary. "As part of the collaboration with AMEC, the group intends to pursue a new dialogue with Hereford and Worcester and have submitted an alternative proposal based on Estech's market leading autoclave technology that the directors of ReEnergy believe overcomes the councils' earlier concerns," the renewable energy company said in a statement. Negotiations between Estech and the councils of Hereford and Worcester for the provision of two Fibrecycle plants were halted in December 2006. TFN.newsdesk@thomson kkb/bsu/bsd | asparks
14/6/2007 08:50 | eket: Previous posts will demonstrate that I too have a reason 'to love ' this stock. However , having initially bopught in at the 363p level - after such a meteoric rise- I started selling once AMEC reached the 500p level. Once it breached the 600p I sold my final tranche - not because I don't have long term faith in this recovery stock but because a retrenchment was highly likely bearing in mind the general mood of the market. I'm now waiting and watching fully expecting to buy back in nearer 500p. | wendsworth
07/6/2007 09:52 | Can anybody tell what is going on with this stock ? | eket
06/6/2007 08:09 | Willbros Announces Purchase of AMEC Canadian Pipeline Contractor Midwest Management (1987) Limited Tuesday June 5, 5:26 pm ET HOUSTON, TX--(MARKET WIRE)--Jun 5, 2007 -- Willbros Group, Inc. (NYSE:WG - News) announced today that one of its subsidiary companies has entered into a Share Purchase Agreement with AMEC to acquire all of the shares of Midwest Management (1987) Limited ("Midwest"), a Canadian pipeline and facilities construction company, for approximately $17.5 million (C$18.5 million), plus working capital of approximately $3.3 million (C$3.5 million). Midwest, together with its wholly owned subsidiaries, Midwest Pipeline Rental Inc. and Midwest General Contractors Ltd., offers a complete range of services, including cross country pipeline construction, rehabilitation and maintenance, water crossings installation and replacement, and facilities fabrication. Closing of this transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval pursuant to the Competition Act (Canada) and other typical closing conditions, is expected to take place in the late second quarter or early third quarter of 2007. Randy Harl, President and Chief Executive Officer of Willbros, commented, "This acquisition provides substantial opportunities for Willbros to participate in large diameter pipeline projects related to the development of the Canadian oil sands and natural gas reserves expected during the next several years. The additional capabilities of a mainline pipeline construction entity in Canada will complement Willbros' traditional Canadian activities which include providing maintenance, capital projects and modular fabrication services to the oil sands developments. With the addition of Midwest, we will now have in Canada a cross-country pipeline construction company with experience, systems, equipment and corporate identity bolstered by the global resume of Willbros. The resultant organization can offer pipeline construction and project logistics experience unmatched by any competitor in Canada." | madger
02/6/2007 08:10 | I love this company. Nearly doubled now - I bought at 320p. My broker rang when they were 360, then 420, then 450 advising me to sell. I ignored them - they've stopped ringing me now! | dextroisomerism
29/5/2007 15:24 | Through £6 for the first ever time. Patience was a virtue. | broadwood
17/5/2007 10:37 | citigroup is a fan | maiseymouse
17/5/2007 09:12 | Have held this for yonks - paying off at last. Future immediate share price action seems to depend on how much they get for selling off various businesses - and the strength of the dollar. Think I'll stay with it a while longer to see how the reorganised business performs. | broadwood
17/5/2007 09:05 | Yes, you could put a ruler on that chart since I bought last year. Company is well positioned to pick up one of these big nuclear contracts, so still onwards and upwards! | evo8 |
