Offshore - AMEC's wind energy business initiated and acted as a joint developer of the UK's first offshore wind turbines at Blyth, Northumberland in 1993, and took Lynn, a major offshore wind farm in the Wash area off the Lincolnshire coast, to consent in October 2003. AMEC and Centrica have now teamed up to take the Lynn project through to completion and develop two second round Crown Estate sites. Docking Shoal and Race Bank offshore wind farms, in the Great Wash area off the North Norfolk coast, are expected to be fully operational by 2010 and together provide around 1,000MW of generating capacity – enough to meet the domestic requirements of approximately 560,000 homes.

Onshore – AMEC's wind energy business has a large onshore development portfolio which includes high profile sites such as the Lewis Wind Farm, potentially the UK's largest onshore wind farm, which is being developed by Lewis Wind Power, a 50/50 joint venture with British Energy. The onshore portfolio also includes a number of wind farms in existing commercial forests. Sites like Clashindarroch, Aultmore and Kyle provide an opportunity to return the commercial forests to a richer natural environment. Following construction of these wind farms, AMEC will work with stakeholders, including Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB and local interest groups to put in place sustainable habitat management plans.

Great company : involved in key areas for the future (wind and nuclear)

LBO :True ...but no stock ever goes up in straight lines.

AMEC is a recovering undervalued stock and therefore a far safer haven when the general market is 'turbulent'.

Hope you've been 'topping-up' on weakness ????

triguy: Interesting extracts ..very much in the anticipated vein. If the nuclear waste disposal sector REALLY takes off who knows where AMEC' share price could go.

Did I see some announcement on Friday ref a possible tie-up with British Energy over Wind Farms ?

Share price is now 'settling' in the 480s which makes 500p by results on 14/03/07 a realistic prospect.

I am looking for this one to rise into the 535-550 range in the next 2-3 months and then possibly into the 60's before year end.
Reasoning for this is that there has been "many" very serious expressions of interest for the areas of the business which are to be spun off (built environment, DPS etc).
Als the company is undervalued on fundamentals considering the type of contracts they have and the deal making prowess of the CEO (Samir Brikho), one example from this week of this....
"I met with Sir Peter Spencer, Chief of Defence Procurement at the UK's Ministry of Defence, with the primary objective to position AMEC as a provider with the resources and technology to help them with their nuclear program. I also met with the Chairman of UKAEA, Barbara Thomas, and separately with Jessie Roberson, President of the Nuclear business at CH2M Hill, both of these meetings were to discuss the progress of the work we are undertaking at Dounreay and explore further opportunities for the future in the UK and US..", definitely one for the medium term.

FredD: Always a pleasure to report POSITIVE news!

The real bonus with an appreciating undervalued stock like AMEC is the twice yearly dividend payments. I experienced a similar situation with Abbey National in 2004 and Exel in 2005 ..with the regular dividend payments being 'the icing on the cake, ..so to speak. Doubtless hedgefund managers will pick up on this aspect as well.

wendsworth,
Thanks for that, I hadn't seen the upgrade. My preference would also be to see the completion of turnaround rather than a bid at the moment.

FredD: Citigroup upgrade from hold to buy with a revised target price of 540p!
Its particularly interesting that the latest upgrade has come from Citigroup as AMEC' bid suitors could well come from the U.S. - coupled with the nuclear waste clear up factor which if Bush' administration take the nuclear route to cut down carbon emmisions would mean mega bucks for AMEC.

Having previously revised my pre-final results( due next month)forecast upwards from the 440-450p to 500p ....looks like we could well be there sooner than I'd expected.Doubtless institutions & 'bidders' are waking up to theAMECpotential

If the share does reach 500p in the next month or so then I would see a steady rise towards 600p in the next financial year.Obviously , if a bid situation should arise that could change dramatically. Personally I prefer the rationalisation & steady turn around of the company by the directors and consider share holder value would be BETTER advanced than with a bid.

LBO:Agreed! ...but I don't regard my strategy as 'playing Russian roulette' neither do I consider it to be a reasonable analogy. My comments are genuine and well meant.Incidentally I never short.

entj: Agreed .AMEC is still a very undervalued stock.

Go with the Flow & LBO: Stick with it. The inclination is to be cautious but I've learnt the hard way that with a genuinely undervalued stock it is best to trade it up and add to one's holding. I got out of Carillion at 178p and De La Rue AT 395p...THINKING I'D DONE WELL...but look at them now !!

To date AMEC has been my highest yielding share since I commenced trading in 1985 . I'm convinced that there is considerable upside and am therefore sticking with it.

Remember ....you've only got to find ONE really successful share to trade to make a five figure killing. For me that's AMEC.

Expecting 500 very soon but the charts point to over 700 as the real target.

VERY STRONG today.

Late rise held at 458.5 to 458.75.Significant?...after a reasonable rise has displayed a tendency to 'come-off' towards close.

Are the 'yanks' showing interest again?....weak dollar hasn't stopped Citigroup snaffling up Egg today!
