30/7/2008 23:09 | Im not sure what is going on here,i do not follow AL,as im not a holder. Its hard to say, they may neg a better offer for AL.This is the wrong time for a take over.My opinion, (If so,this is good for shareholders and the bank) the deal with Santander is just a smoke screen. They will walk away from the 'big buy-out deal' with 12m + shares. Desperate times call for desperate measures. | k38
30/7/2008 17:55 | k38 Aviva and FII (whomever they are) have both taken stakes up to 4% each in the past few days; added to the others. Are they getting in the queue for a bid battle? | andrewlewis
29/7/2008 23:13 | andrewlewis You may find some answers of your Q here,(i know old news...) Things have not been going according to plan for Banks this season, but this is not a signal to abandon ship.It may be that the captain is a coward. In fact they cover their *ss and salaries plus bonus . The bank said the deal with Santander offered "certainty in uncertain times", | k38
29/7/2008 18:42 | So Tesco's Personal Finance is worth £1.9bn and A&L £1.2bn? This is just crazy....BS have tried to spook people by pledging £1bn in extra capital to A&L but that is way more than they require....they are just trying to put off other bidders....and it wont work! I am voting against this deal (and quite frankly I would vote against any Abbey takeover of AL - they dont have one of the largest complaints departments in the financial services industry for nothing!) I reckon the take out price will be at least £4 maybe even as high as £4.50-£5.00..... | indomie
29/7/2008 18:16 | zipper What long term investment when you can buy Santander shares on the open market. But I understand the Spanish Government takes out 18% tax from the dividend before you get it. | andrewlewis
29/7/2008 17:58 | Or could it be a cheap way into BNC shares? There has to be motive for current purchases by investment houses. I will be surprised if there is a counter bid but que sera | acamas
29/7/2008 17:44 | 3415 - as an excellent long term investment! | zipper
29/7/2008 17:07 | k38 Where is this leading us i.e. if the offer is successful. The shareholders still have to vote and why are these organizations buying up AL shares if not to block the bid or set up a counter bid? | andrewlewis
29/7/2008 13:28 | If the offer is successful... "We are not interested in HBOS," Saenz told reporters. "We have what we want (in Britain). We are very happy with Abbey, and Alliance & Leicester fits in to that well. If the offer is successful we will be facing an integration period ahead." | k38
28/7/2008 18:21 | k38 What do you make of Barclays buying about 5% and Capital Investments about the same last week and again this week. What doyou think is going on? Is there another bidder on the horizon and what is Barclays doing buying AL. shares? | andrewlewis

28/7/2008 08:48 | jennyj Gracias. La vida en Angleterra es muy malo. Todos los Bancos son ladrones y mentirosos. Pero Los Espanoles saben que ellos ganan mucho dinero de los Engleses stupido. Que Lastima! | andrewlewis
27/7/2008 00:54 | new second offer on the table soon. | k38
26/7/2008 14:52 | If the recovery in banking stocks continues now that the big RI's are out of the way, then the AL Board surely must consider entering discussions over an agreed higher offer from Santander. BS have already insisted that AL agree to inform them straight away if they receive another approach, which to me suggests that they will pay more to secure this asset! | indomie
25/7/2008 23:40 | Vote NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to the takeover. | daveram13
Saludos | andrewlewis
25/7/2008 14:51 | We must offer our condolences to Giro bank once the peoples bank, after privatisation the A+L and now under spanish ownership in order to help bail out the coming spanish economic crisis with british pounds. Its next 100 years of profits amounting to over 200 billion sterling we gift to you spain to aid your economy based on tapas and germans | jennyj
25/7/2008 10:29 | JP Morgan leads possible HBOS break-up,news, no help for AL.or the others... Market, welcome to the jungle. | k38
24/7/2008 01:27 | if AL break the 400 mark this deal is dead & buried. AL will be 12m poorest. jj will be no takeover for HBOS. | k38
24/7/2008 00:00 | HBOS under normal market conditions makes twice the profit of BBVA. BBVA is a disaster waiting to happen and should be priced at 1/6th its current value. If the deal goes through 1 year down the line spain will collapse and the spanish banks will increase margins in the UK to keep the piece of poo floating on top of the water. Basically the deal robs UK citizens and stock holders of 40 billion sterling in the short term and over the next 100 years it robs the UK and its citizens of around 5 trillion sterling profits a robbery that this time the government needs to open its eyes too. A robbery over 10-20 times that of the A+L deal | jennyj
23/7/2008 16:04 | gbb483 i am holding out for a higher bid. maybe bbva might come in, especially if it fails with hbos. | tricky1992000 |
