16/1/2017 12:28 | I heard on the radio this morning it costs £82k to send someone to Davos. Shows you what a shambolic mess this company was prior to the forced changes. | meijiman
16/1/2017 12:17 | Todays news seems to have brought out a rash of negative views from the fund commentators with citywire suggesting sell and questor buy witan instead. | spacecake
09/1/2017 16:08 | Davos is coming up but the self styled global leader will not be there having been sacked last year. Still she has loads of money (your money)to spend. | meijiman
09/1/2017 15:03 | FX boost from hard Brexit PM comments. | spacecake
20/12/2016 21:04 | Really pleased with the way forward. Particularly given its what I suggested in post 96. The multi-manager approach has worked well for Witan and could work well here as well. | topvest
20/12/2016 18:43 | NAV discount reduction action at last, more to come ahead of the vote on the proposals. Looks like Elliott partners have been picking up shares also. | spacecake
16/12/2016 22:58 | That's a decent share buyback yesterday too... nearly 1% of the trust. Market seems pleased :-) | epistrophy
16/12/2016 21:35 | The 128-year old company will outsource £3.6bn of equity investment to eight or more other investment firms. Alliance Trust Investment, the asset management team which employs about 200 people in London and Edinburgh, is being sold to Liontrust Asset Management. Lord Smith said: "The board has evaluated carefully a broad range of options, with an open mind and a clear line of sight on how best we could improve the trust's performance. "We are proposing a new approach to the investment management of the equity portfolio. Our proposal is that we will move from a single manager to multiple equity managers. All managers will be rated best-in-class and each will create a focused portfolio of their vest investment selections." | spacecake
09/8/2016 19:43 | Elliott partners > 17% ahead of strategic review, up from 15.3% in Annual report. | spacecake
08/8/2016 10:23 | Sterling weakness helping here ? | spacecake
22/7/2016 12:43 | Come back 'self styled global leader' -all is forgiven.... arf arf | meijiman
22/7/2016 11:16 | Says it all ! "The Trust’s quoted equity portfolio produced a return of 9.5% for the period against the benchmark’s 12.0% return." | spacecake
07/6/2016 18:31 | Thats the end of 'merger' talk, look forward to the outcome of the review. | spacecake
01/6/2016 18:52 | Agreed. It would be called a merger but would effectively be a Rothschild takeover. | topvest
31/5/2016 22:19 | This will not be a merger, if it goes ahead the new trust will need a name, board, key players and be based somewhere. I don't see the new company being based in Scotland or being controlled by anyone other that the Rothschild's, therefore it will be a takeover and puts its very existence in peril it won't get my vote. | spacecake
31/5/2016 20:40 | Not in my view - any bid is just about closing the 10% discount. Over the long-term that's not a big issue. RIT Capital Partners may be on a premium now but will it too be on a discount in 5 years? I would like Alliance Trust to get its act together and perform. It's been going since 1888 and shouldn't be brought down by the previous rubbish Board. RIT Capital Partners probably only has another 5-10 years with Rothschild at the helm before retiring. Not even great men go on forever! | topvest
31/5/2016 19:58 | Aren`t you pre-judging the issue? No terms of any "merger" have been offered as yet by RIT but the market is now on alert as shown by the positive reaction today on the Alliance s.p. | gilston
31/5/2016 18:20 | I'm not that keen on a RIT merger. At the end of the day its very straightforward and the Strategy Review should have been completed a long time ago. The Strategy Review should be to employ a top quartile investment manager / multi-manager Witan style approach of best of breed managers. They would have £2.5bn to manage and so there should be no shortage of top quality names applying. Merging with RIT is too short term. The guy is 80 and what happens when he needs to retire? KEEP ALLIANCE TRUST INDEPENDENT gets my vote, rather than just getting Rothschild (another over paid individual) to boost his personal ego by getting RIT to No. 1 in the investment trust charts. I've nothing against RIT and am a shareholder, but this is not the way forward for a trust with the fantastic heritage of Alliance Trust. | topvest

31/5/2016 18:04 | This approach has put Alliance well & truly into play. If RIT are serious, they need to put an offer on the table. | gilston
31/5/2016 15:59 | More expensive distractions.... The Board of Alliance Trust notes recent press speculation relating to an unsolicited approach received by the Board and confirms that RIT Capital Partners plc ("RIT") has approached Alliance Trust with an informal proposal for a merger of the two companies. | spacecake
04/3/2016 22:37 | It's such a unfair, greedy & twisted world we live in ;~| | spacecake
04/3/2016 16:32 | They need to pay for the redundancy package of the self styled global leader. The idea is that you pay for it. | meijiman
04/3/2016 14:33 | Oh dear... after only just arriving as a new customer from Stocktrade they are putting my investment account fees up for an inferior service. | spacecake
16/2/2016 19:54 | Hopefully Alliance Trust will get back to what they should be doing. Employing an above average investment manager. Great opportunity for someone to put this company back on a sure footing. | topvest |
