18/8/2004 15:38 | I know of no current major Alfred McAlpine projects in Guildford. I have checked the website and the internal directory, and come up with nothing. I'm just guessing here, but the rumour you have heard may be something to do with RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. The project wasn't an entire success, but no lasting serious damage has been done, and the project is completed and finished except maybe a few final account issues (as far as I'm aware). Either that or you are thinking of the other McAlpine (Sir Robert) | thewalrus
17/8/2004 19:07 | don't know. | mike180
17/8/2004 17:28 | mike180, What's the name of the project? Thanks. | ed 123
17/8/2004 14:44 | I think that this Company could be in for a hard time. It has a project in Guildford that is running late and will not be complete until next spring , nearly 3 years late. The industry is awash with rumours that it will suffer a big loss on the project. | mike180
19/7/2004 18:06 | Thanks Ed. | thewalrus
15/7/2004 22:13 | Interims will be released two weeks today. There is plenty of work for this sector and more to come (eg. very big schools programme, also water and roads). If there are no nasties with the results, then McAlpine may go through 330 pence, but UK stockmarket is being unsettled by signs of weakening of the US recovery and high oil price. Carillion and Balfour Beatty have looked strong recently. Mowlem has shot itself in the foot. Fingers crossed, McAlpine will follow the former two. | ed 123
15/7/2004 18:28 | Anyone any idea or opinion of whats happening with this one and where it may be headed? | thewalrus
28/6/2004 22:17 | One month on and things are looking brighter. 280 pence support worked well and 300p level regained. Interims are one month away. Will we get through 330 pence near term? | ed 123

28/5/2004 21:47 | True, even out of favour with one of the directors. Why has he sold two lots of shares? I hope it's to pay for a divorce settlement or for some other worthy reason. If he didn't really need the cash it would be worrying. PS Mr Wimpey, please may we have our Homes Division back. It was all a bit of a mistake selling it to you. | ed 123
28/5/2004 09:38 | Yeah support about 280p, the whole sector looks out of favour at the moment. | wipo1
27/5/2004 14:17 | Where was that support? Next (possible) support around 280 pence. Director selling hasn't helped. Last year there was a lot of buying about the 190 pence mark, I seem to recall. If all else fails, we'll get a bounce there (lol). If only we still had the Homes Division (sigh). | ed 123
21/5/2004 22:49 | The AGM statement read well. The infrastructure margins are an industry thing. Soon a lot of work will be undertaken by the water companies and highways authorities and so I guess margins will creep back up again. McAlpine remains on track. Interims are a little over 2 months away. This share may not do much until then. There was a lot of selling today. The price held up and I suspect the mm's will try to manouvre the price up when they have taken on enough stock. Chartwise, good support around the 295 pence mark and a return to 310 is possible before much longer. Hopefully it will get through 320 pence after the interims. This one looks good for the medium/long term to me (no advice given). | ed 123
17/5/2004 10:22 | Looks like Market makers are at it today, 6.7% down on no bad news, new contract wins. | wipo1
04/5/2004 12:25 | Some reasonable "O" BUYS today in a stock usually dominated by ATs. Certainly one to watch closely this week; if we can break up through 320p - and close there - then a good run looks assured. Though we do go ex-6.5p of divi tomorrow. The chart over the past few weeks is making an ascending triangle. This is a bullish pattern; as lucidly described by chartpatterns.com - see below: The ascending triangle is a variation of the symmetrical triangle. Ascending triangles are generally considered bullish and are most reliable when found in an uptrend. The top part of the triangle appears flat, while the bottom part of the triangle has an upward slant. In ascending triangles, the market becomes overbought and prices are turned back. Buying then re-enters the market and prices soon reach their old highs, where they are once again turned back. Buying then resurfaces, although at a higher level than before. Prices eventually break through the old highs and are propelled even higher as new buying comes in. (As in the case of the symmetrical triangle, the breakout is generally accompanied by a marked increase in volume.) | skyship
28/4/2004 18:54 | Skyship - Might get there by year end, MCA the best value play in the sector. | wipo1
28/4/2004 13:57 | Looks as though we may well be teetering on the edge of a break-out. Target 370p IMO. | skyship
19/4/2004 18:40 | Yeah looking good for MCA, surprised at the lack of interest in this one. | wipo1
19/4/2004 13:12 | We have now well and truly broken the £3 deadlock; and IMO the break through 310p confirms the target of 370p. It's taken longer than I anticipated, but now looking good for solid progress. | skyship
07/4/2004 17:41 | Looks undervalued compared to LNGO and CLLN has a lot less debt and cash in the bank. A few fund managers have been buying. 303p resistance broken Lots of trades are delayed so difficult to tell whether buys or sells | wipo1
07/4/2004 11:56 | Has anyone any idea why this is going up when there appears to be more sales than buys? what am I missing?? | lms |
