16/5/2002 14:34 | Looking good today, results are out next Tuesday, couldn't resist topping up today (10K @ 155p) | timbo003
11/4/2002 00:02 | sum1 is playing with allders, 150K sold 2 day just sold after opening and a few days b4 similar amounts were bought, quite rare for big numbers for this quailty share, so watch this space, its either up or down from here....... | 00938180
24/3/2002 19:31 | See story in todays FOM "DTI sparks talk of bid for Fraser" which is obviously relevant, Allders get a small mention needless to say | timbo003
23/3/2002 22:23 | A small mention in todays Times under "Rumour of the day" | timbo003
28/12/2001 22:36 | Another solid gain today and now approaching a three year high, looks like £2 is on the cards short term and thereafter much higher (probably) | timbo003
24/12/2001 21:27 | Just found this interview with the CEO Harvey Lipsith, it took place 28th November 2001 (apparently) Still a stonking buy, despite the recent rise IMHO | timbo003
02/12/2001 13:38 | There's a sell recomendation in todays Sunday Telegraph, no doubt there will be a mark down on Monday, a good opportunity to top up? | timbo003
30/11/2001 18:02 | Well a nice steady rise today after a very reassuring set of results on Wednesday. There's an interesting insight into what Minerva are up to with their stake building over on citywire Allders CEO Harvey Lipsith comments on Minerva "They know the company and believe it’s undervalued. They’re not trying to influence us, although we are working with them in Croydon" he goes on to say "I wouldn’t say whether a takeover had or hadn’t formed part of our discussion". I personally doubt whether Minerva will bid for Allders, but I reckon they would sell out to an opportunistic bidder if the price was right, ie the NAV, which is currently around £2.20 per share. That would be nice, 'cos then a potential bidder would have to offer considerably more for the rest of the shares (including mine) | timbo003
26/11/2001 00:07 | See article in todays Sunday business No smoke without fire! | timbo003
18/11/2001 14:17 | Rumour of HoF and Allders merger. Could be blocked by Minerva - who would be keen to mop up more shares. Any views anyone?? | honiton
16/11/2001 09:37 | picked a few up today 1.58, some big buys last night at close, looks good for a run to 2.00 at least | dodddy
11/10/2001 00:39 | Huge BUY trade of 150,000 just gone through (not mine). | netcurtains
12/8/2001 16:43 | JRB Yes I am "king coal" timbo and I continue to hold UK coal, albeit at a slightly reduced level compared to a few months ago, the divis are just too compelling and there is only one way to go for oil and other energy sources in the next few years (ie up). As Stuart Oliver (UK coal) said to me the other day, you can only dig it up once, and once its gone its gone! As to the lack of self congratuations, I guess I must be mellowing with age! | timbo003
12/8/2001 16:24 | Hi, Timbo. There does seem to be some concern about the prospects for retailers as the recession takes hold, but I have to agree with you that Allders look exceptionally good value at the current price. Having sold in June at 168p, I couldn't resist buying back a few days ago at 145p, despite my nervousness about the general market. Just to clarify: are you the original and great 'King Coal' Timbo, or are you some lesser Timbo three removes from the original? The quality of your posts suggests the former, while the lack of self-congratulation seems to favour the latter. | jrb
12/8/2001 15:33 | There was a nice write up in todays Sunday Business, which I have scanned in for anyone who is interested (see below) | timbo003
30/7/2001 15:07 | I've held Allders for about 2 years (bought at 118 before falling then rising then falling again). I like the Leeds store where I live and find the stock excellent.I have been in a couple of their other stores and like the concept. The excellent divvy makes me want to hold , especially as I think they are benefitting from M&S's decline long term. The problem is, what about the retail sector as a whole at the moment? The recession that is almost upon us is likely to bite soon with a consequent drop in sales. Michael Walters was advocating selling at approx. 168p, after which they have been consistently falling slowly. The company is wanting to expand and I'm not sure that now is the time to do it. Currently I am dithering . Someone else's thoughts? | sigmund freud
05/6/2001 19:50 | Sorry timbo for all these Q's but where can I find such info as "equity shareholder funds" ? Many thanks | the blacker prince
04/6/2001 11:40 | I think the reason for the early mark down was this Which as far as I'm concerned is of little consequence to the overall picture and just an excuse for profit taking | timbo003
04/6/2001 08:35 | Lots of small sells this morning... was it a tipped as a sell in one of the papers? | gdjs100
02/6/2001 07:15 | Thanks timbo for the excellent explanation. I owe you one. Regards | the blacker prince
01/6/2001 22:53 | Well, it looks like the recent rises could be due to Minerva topping up yet again They now hold 9.3M (12.1%) previously 11.7% I find it hard to believe that Minerva (a property company) would be interested in bidding for Allders, I think its more likely that they are just building a (friendly) strategic stake in a company which owns an awful lot of valuable property assets. The Blacker Prince; to answer your question concerning NAV:- Go look at the accounts and look for "equity shareholder funds" (£166M) then divide by the total number of shares in issue (77.7M) and you get the NAV (214p) In general, when applying this simple formula, look out for "goodwill" or "intangibles" on the balance sheet, if I see a value for goodwill or intangibles on the accounts, I generally subtract this value from "equity shareholder funds" before calculating the NAV. Goodwill/intangibles generally occurs on the balance sheets of companies that have recently paid too much for an acquistion, so in calculating NAV, goodwill or intangibles should be ignored in most cases (Baltimore is a good example, where NAV is way overstated as a result of worthless goodwill). This clearly doesn't apply to Allders | timbo003
01/6/2001 21:55 | timbo 003 - or anyone else - This might seem a stupid question but how do you work out the NAV of a Company ? | the blacker prince
01/6/2001 16:59 | £1m of purch's today & no sales - 2 big buyers - is it Allders for the BOGOF or is it outsiders? The price didn't move - is that because the MM had the orders on his books for a while and therefore the price has already moved up to reflect this demand? Any help? | mcging |
