Strange that they say financial difficulties relating to the Ebola epidemic and not the price of iron ore, is the ebola worse than we have been led to believe.

African Minerals : Sierra Leone: Government expresses concern over leading miner's future

Envoyer par mail

11/26/2014 | 10:13am US/Eastern

The Sierra Leone government has expressed concern over the suspension of trading of shares of the leading mining company in the country, African Minerals Limited (AML).

The UK headquartered iron ore miner, which trades on the London Stock exchange, was given a temporary trading suspension over ongoing financial difficulties related the Ebola epidemic.

In a statement on Tuesday, the government warned that the decision could not only affect Sierra Leone's revenue generations, but also the fate of the company's (local) employees.

The statement issued through the ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources also cautioned against any takeover of the company without the due involvement of the state.

This comes as reports this week indicated plans by AML to sell off parts of its stake at its flagship mine in the Tonkolili District, north of the country.

"Government as a strategic partner wishes it to be known that any investor who desires to invest or take over African Minerals Limited as a result of the present situation must fully collaborate or consult with the Government of Sierra Leone through the ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources," the statement said.

It warned that without this such investors won't enjoy "the concurrence" of government.

Why am I becoming positive?

Well, perhaps its just that I can see AMI rising again, albeit in a different form and the current holders may have to take a cut,or, perhaps it's getting near to Christmas, I'm not sure but something tells me it's darkest before the dawn.

Chin up all holders.

:-)

Sierra Leone GDP in 2013: only just under $5 billion USD.

I can't see SL Gov't stepping into the fray here to buy a % in AMI for 100s of millions.

I asked a number of questions to the BOD which got passed onto Tavistock, who replied ignoring anyone's of real interest to me.. Funds belong to project company so not AML or SISGTIMIS CORP not currently using infrastructure as terms being negotiatedSuspension came from regulator and the NOMAD jefferies, pending clarification of the financial position

Wonder if they have halted production until this gets resolved.

IF the cash is released it will only last a couple of weeks. The project really needs a massive new financing.
