05/8/2015 00:13 | I see it very simply. AFRI is worth around £4M by holding 40% of the existing transport company in SA. So that 'assumes' that the SA transport company is probably worth around £10M. So on a modest p/e of 10, it needs to make £1M post-tax. Taking into account overheads and taxes, let's say it needs to turn over £2.5M. Exporting around 2.5M kg of produce this year, that means charging customers around £1 per kg of produce trucked and transported across the world. That doesn't sound unreasonable to me, for relatively high-value produce that probably sells for £5+ per kg in UK supermarkets, or a lot more in Asian upmarket restaurants. In addition, Afri are now buying their own truck fleet, and continuing to make an additional margin on their marketing activity. Profits this year were just £60K, but that is historical for 2014 and should grow substantially. What would be a fair value for the above? NAI DYOR | ![]() cyberbub
04/8/2015 14:30 | not in this but watching out of interest. rwauu, seems to me that any start up business doesn't go out and buy a fleet of brand new rigs without first testing the water by using existing ones in place and just hiring them in, no capital outlay and can just contract them short term so very little downside and losses. Now that the business is being repeated and becomes more predictable, they can start adding their own trucks which will then take priority to keep them at 100% utilisation. In places like SA there are often very fragmented transport industries...no Eddie Stobarts out there...yet, so it's clearly possible to create a national and even transAfrican transport group. Considering the size of the African market, this company could actually become massive in time, and as they secure tier 1 clients, more will come to them asking them to resolve their own logistics issues and ensure produce gets to market and spoilage is reduced as much as possible. I think DL could be onto a big winner here, and unlike oil and rare earth minerals, food transportation does not depend upon the market price of the goods, just the prices that the competition charges, and there doesn't seem to be much competition out there! Group turnover and eventual profits will of course be the clear indicator of where Afri is going, hence why I'm watching from the side for now. GL all. | ![]() lazarus2010

04/8/2015 07:06 | RNS Number : 9476U AfriAg PLC 04 August 2015 4 August 2015 AfriAg plc ("AfriAg" or the "Company") Trading Update - Agri-Logistics business growth. AfriAg (AIM: AFRI) is pleased to announce another strong performance in the half year to 30 June 2015 for perishable airfreight logistics from AfriAg's 40% owned specialist African agri-logistics group AfriAg SA (Pty) Ltd ("AfriAg SA"). David Lenigas, Executive Chairman of AfriAg, commented: "We are now seeing strong growth from AfriAg's agri-logistics business, AfriAg SA, in southern Africa as the business becomes more established. AfriAg SA's fleet of 25 refrigerated trucks are now running near capacity and AfriAg Holdings Ltd is now in the process of buying the first of its own refrigerated large trucks to cater for the expanding agri-logistics contracts on offer in the southern African region." Airfreight Logistics - Update: A total of approximately 907,000 kg of perishable produce was air freighted by AfriAg SA for the 6 month period from 1 January to 30 June 2015; -- This represents a 40% increase over the 650,000 kg airfreighted for the corresponding period last year, typically the quieter half of the year. In the six months to 31 December 2014 a total of 1,074,000 kg of perishable goods was airfreighted and we are anticipating an increase in the second half performance of the year to 31 December 2015; -- The low oil prices and sustained weakness in the Rand against the Pound and the Euro continue to have a positive effect on AfriAg's export business. These perishable goods were trucked by AfriAg's modern fleet of 25 refrigerated trucks from farming and fishing operations in southern Africa and exported by airfreight from to Europe and Asia from Johannesburg and Cape Town international airports. -END- | ![]() vivgav
