RNS this morning re Muscat Al Seeb

comment from Proactivenvestors...

Fast-growing Action Hotels (LON:AHCG) has completed its first development in collaboration with the giant IHG following the successful opening of the Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb in Oman.

The collaboration is the pair's first in the Middle East and will be followed by the Staybridge Suites Rawdath Abu Dhabi next year.

Action is building an impressive mid-market branded offering in the Middle East, a region more associated with some of the most opulent venues in the world.
It is working with France's Accor to roll out the Ibis fascia and has teamed up with Whitbread to develop its first Premier Inn.

Over the next 36 months, there are plans for four Premier Inns, three Ibis hotels, and a Staybridge.

The operating companies involved tender on a hotel by hotel basis to partner with Action on a 10- 20-year managementcontract based on a percentage of revenues and profit.

Local rules on ownership coupled with Action's ability to source prime development sites means established hotel operators have been keen to partner with the group.

IHG opens Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb

Sunday, March 02, 2014, 14:00 Hrs [IST]

By HBI Staff | Mumbai

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb in Muscat, Oman. The hotel has 185 rooms, each with a 32-inch LED TV, an iPod docking station and access to free Wi-Fi services. A comfortable workspace in the rooms offers a relaxing and spacious environment, with views over the outdoor pool and terrace area. The hotel's ballroom, boardroom and meeting rooms offer flexible spaces for customised events and meetings, catering for up to 250 people.

The F&B options at the hotel include the all-day dining restaurant, Omede and Halwa Lounge Café that offers guests a real taste of Omani drinks and delicacies. Additionally, Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb operates Holiday Inn Hotels and Resort's 'Kids Stay and Eat Free' programme. The hotel also features a gym and outdoor pool facilities.

Oppenheimer Pinto, General Manager, Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb commented, "We are very excited to be welcoming guests to Oman's newest hotel. With our close proximity to the airport and to the attractions of Old and New Muscat, the hotel is a great place to stay whether you're here for business or leisure."

Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb marks the re-entry of the renowned brand to Oman. In 1977, Oman was the home of the first Holiday Inn property in the Middle East with Holiday Inn Resort Salalah, before the property was converted to Crowne Plaza Resort Salalah.

Holiday Inn Al Seeb is owned by Action Hotels plc, and is the inaugural partnership between IHG and Action Hotels.

Alain Debare, Chief Executive, Action Hotels plc, added, "We are pleased to announce the successful opening of our first hotel development with IHG and are proud to become part of the Holiday Inn family, reintroducing to Oman a market leading international brand with a strong heritage in the region. We see significant opportunities in the Middle East for the mid-scale hotel market, with the growth of intra-regional low cost airlines making travel easier and more affordable than ever before. Hotels play an important role in their contribution to local economies, and IHG's reputation as an investor in people is a key driver behind Action Hotel's investment in the brand."

Pascal Gauvin, CEO for India, Middle East and Africa, IHG commented, "Oman played a key role in the launch of the Holiday Inn brand in the Middle East region so it is fantastic to be able to bring the brand back to a country where it has so much history. With tourist numbers to Oman on the increase we are confident that Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb will offer a comfortable and quality option for visitors to Muscat, and play a key role in the city's future too."

"Oman tourism: Hotels upbeat as occupancy surges"

25th february

Muscat: Oman's hospitality sector recorded a strong growth in 2013, with occupancy rates rising up to 77 per cent in December, a new study has revealed.

According to the Middle East Hotel Benchmark Survey Report by EY, the hotel occupancy level was around 68 per cent over the year in Oman, just behind that of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Muscat was closely followed by Doha (64 per cent) and Jordan (61 per cent).

"The new strategy will focus on increasing the contribution of tourism sector to the GDP of the country," he said.

He also said developing new hotels and resorts and bringing them to the market is one of Oman's top priorities.

"A number of large-scale transport infrastructure developments will be coming to fruition over the next few years at a cost in excess of $50 billion," he said.

Recently, the hospitality sector has already rolled out a number of properties across Oman including the Best Western Premier Hotel in Muscat, the Holiday Inn Muscat, Salalah Rotana Resort in Dhofar Governorate, the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Duqm and niche resorts in Omran, at Khasab (Musandam) and Jebel Al Akhdhar

" Premier Inn already has five hotels in the UAE which have been lapped up by customers whose wallets can't stretch to the garish seven star hotels in the region."

Spreadbet companies tend to shy away from illiquid stocks, or make them 'telephone only'. I found it easy to open bets online via Spreadex.com (though they quote a bigger margin than IG on most stocks). EDIT: IG are now offering bets on AHCG.

Market report..

Small-cap punters checked in to Action Hotels (LON:AHCG) after the recently AIM-listed group teamed up with Whitbread (LON:WTB) to take the Premier Inn hotels brand to the Middle East.

The plan is to build four new Premier Inns by 2016, including the 166-bedroom operation in Sharjah King Faisal Road opening later this year – just down the road from Dubai's city centre.

Action plans to invest around £63mln, while Premier Inn will be given long-term contracts to manage the hotels.

Destinations such as Dubai are well-known for their five-star luxuries. But Action Hotels reckons there is a large market for those not willing to splash out the sums required for a good night's sleep.

Whereas in the US 64% of hotels are branded mid-scale, in the Middle East the figure is only 22%.

Action's chief executive, Alain Debare, said: "We have established a strong hotel business which is well-placed to take advantage of the significant growth opportunities for branded economy and midscale hotels across the Middle East.
"Our partnership with Whitbread's Premier Inn brand will enable us to strengthen our leading position in the region."

At the moment the mid-range hotels sector in the region is dominated by private, unbranded operations of often dubious quality.

So Action has found there is ready demand for its concept of branded, intermediate-level hotels offering uniformly good facilities.

It has six hotels in total - in Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and Melbourne - mainly under the Ibis fascia, although the group recently opened its first Holiday Inn and there are plans to badge some of the pipeline Premier Inns.

It listed in London on December 23, raising US$50mln, which is cash that will fully fund a further eight hotels, or 1,500 rooms, over next three years.
The news prompted a 14% jump from the share price on Monday to above 80p, some 15p higher than its float price.

Action Hotels in Premier Inn tie-up in Middle East

17th february

AIM-listed Action Hotels (LON:AHCG) on Monday said it is teaming up with Whitbread (LON:WTB) to take the Premier Inn Hotels brand across the Middle East.
The plan is to build four new Premier Inns by 2016, including the 166-bedroom operation in Sharjah's King Faisal Road opening later this year.

Action plans to invest around £63mln, while Premier Inn will be given long-term contracts to manage the hotels.

Action's chief executive, Alain Debare, said: "We have established a strong hotel business which is well-placed to take advantage of the significant growth opportunities for branded economy and midscale hotels across the Middle East. Our partnership with Whitbread's Premier Inn brand will enable us to strengthen our leading position in the region."

The group has a unique (and some would say counter-intuitive) strategy of rolling out three and four star hotels across the Middle East, a region more associate with five-star opulence.

However industry figures reveal the area is woefully underserved. Whereas in the US 64% of hotels are branded mid-scale, in the Middle East the figure is only 22%.
At the moment the sector in the region is dominated by private, unbranded operations of often dubious quality.

So, Action has found there is ready demand for its concept of branded, intermediate-level hotels offering uniformly good facilities.

The portfolio will be a mix of freehold and leasehold properties. The latter are cheaper to build (US$2-3mln to convert from office space) and quicker to bring online.
