Cedar Fair have taken over another resort attraction, the 235 acre Sawmill Creek in Ohio. That's three parks/resorts acquired this week, all of which are likely to feature ACSO's tech:

"(6/25/19) According to readers who have taken the latest guest surveys from Six Flags, it looks like the company may be looking into the possibility of adding their own Six Flags hotels near some of their properties. Six Flags usually fires these questions off to guests from several parks just to get a wider reaction, as well as to disguise which market is the one intended, but so far they seem to be asking mostly about the Six Flags over Texas area, but have also asked guests about adding a hotel near the Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in the Houston, TX area, the Six Flags over Georgia area, Six Flags America area near Washington, DC, Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey as well as Six Flags Magic Mountain in California."

Welcome nimbo1, good timing methinks.

Six Flags have just been upgraded:

- "attendance trends better than expected"
- attendances likely to be up by 8% in Q2 compared to 4%-6% forecast
- this year should be good against comparatives due to Q3'18 terrible weather
- China progressing steadily - "success in China could eventually translate to $10 million to $20 million of annualized EBITDA"

Agreed - Blackstone say here they will support Merlin with "significant investment" and "substantial resources",

Even better, this article suggests a wave of acquisition activity by Merlin. Given that Merlin has recently implemented ACSO's tech across its entire estate of theme parks and attractions, this would likely mean ACSO gaining a load of potential new business much more quickly than before:

"While stepping up the pace of organic development, particularly Legoland theme parks, is part of the attraction of the deal, one City source suggested Blackstone’s decision to buy back into Merlin could presage deal activity. “Blackstone are not coming back in just to sit on their laurels,” said the source.

Tim Barrett, a leisure analyst at Numis, the broker, said: “The sector is fragmented and consolidating which will give Blackstone ample opportunity to broaden the portfolio, possibly using the Peppa Pig franchise to convert underinvested small and medium-sized parks.”

One deal understood to be on the wish list of Nick Varney, chief executive of Merlin, is PortAventura, the Spanish theme park owned by Investindustrial and KKR, the private equity firms. The park has been tipped as a €1 billion acquisition target....

.....If the bid from Blackstone, Kirkbi and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board does turn into a successful long-term relationship, Mr Varney may get closer to his dream of “catching the Mouse” by overtaking Walt Disney as the world’s biggest attractions operator."

The effect is, Merlin may have positioned themselves better to grow their turnover and accesso takes their commission from that. Since Merlin's largest shareholder is becoming an even larger shareholder, expect Merlin's management to stay the same and continue with their existing supplier preferences.

"As Merlin's largest shareholder and a key intellectual property partner, KIRKBI recognises the significant benefits of a shareholder group with a similar long-term investment horizon and shared commitment to increased investment in the business."

Merlin has just received an offer to go private. This emboldens them to continue spending on building new theme parks and attractions without worrying about the effect on short-term financial results.

ACSO's Tapu Tapu queueless system for Universal has been announced as one of the winners of the 2019 ACI Innovation Awards:

"Universal Studios—Universal Orlando Resort implemented a new and innovative wearable that allows guests at Universal’s Volcano Bay water theme park to wait in “virtual lines,” so they can have fun or relax while waiting to experience attractions, make cashless payments – and more. The “Tapu Tapu” wearable debuted at Volcano Bay last summer."

KKR must be very happy - paid only £450M for it in 2015, and I expect most of that was borrowed. Still saddled with huge debts, now claiming a maiden profit but you can bet the figures have been massaged to within an inch of their lives.

You can see why I think KKR and its ilk might be tempted to repeat the exercise...

It's completely ridiculous. Website and app that accesses the train operators central database just like many others do. Nothing v unique about it and a low cost of market entry. Why do people think it is a high tech business. Whereas accesso really is!

riv - I think private equity will be running the ruler over all the companies in the Megabuyte list 1001 posted yesterday - that seems to be a large part of its function.

If there was general agreement among the management and the larger shareholders that a few years off the market completing the software integration and adding a few bolt-on acquisitions would be a good idea, I've little doubt a deal could be constructed and funded.

The company and its shareholders have been brutally punished for what was perhaps a touch of hubris, but that doesn't change the fact that, as you say, it remains a very attractive company in many respects. At the current valuation, a takeover or take-private must also be a plausible outcome.

ACSO may or may not get back to 3000p.

But that doesn't mean it's not cheap at the current price, in which case there's substantial potential upside to whatever level is attainable, be it 1000p, 1500p or whatever.

Forecasts here are now for 40p EPS this year rising to 49p EPS next year. So the P/E is now just 16.5, falling to 13.5.

There must come a price at which such a low valuation for what is still a market-leading company growing into new sectors becomes attractive for new investors!

Particularly for a company with such high recurring income.

I also note that Six Flags have been upgraded by a US analyst given "a positive news flow from the company's international business; and easy weather comparisons".

"A park-by-park weather analysis conducted by the firm showed that Six Flags had comparable good weather days year-over-year through early June, he said.

“This gives us confidence to upgrade SIX shares now, ahead of the bigger weather-related catalyst in 3Q."
