International stocks trading in New York closed higher Friday. The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 0.65% to 152.16. The European index increased 0.58% to 149.91, the Asian index improved 0.49% to 148.38, the Latin American index rose 1.74% to 291.01 and the emerging-markets index increased 0.97% to 296.84. Among the companies with shares that actively traded were Petroleo Brasileiro S/A (PBR, PETR3.BR, PETR4.BR) and LightInTheBox Holding (LITB).

Brazilian shares rose, led by state-controlled oil company Petrobras, ahead of the release of a poll on voting intentions for the country's October presidential elections. Petrobras rose 5.8% to $16.46. Brazilian shares, particularly those in state-owned companies, have been sensitive to the upcoming election and related poll results.

LightInTheBox Holding, an international online retailer based in Beijing, increased its third-quarter revenue guidance. It expects revenue of $94 million to $96 million, up from a prior view of $92 million to $94 million. Shares rose 9.9% to $6.23.

British regulators held meetings this week with several major banks about potentially settling a long-running investigation into possible manipulation of currencies markets, according to people familiar with the talks. Among the banks that held preliminary talks with the U.K.'s Financial Conduct Authority were Barclays PLC (BCS, BARC.LN), Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (RBS, RBS.LN), HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBC, HSBA.LN), and UBS AG (UBS, UBSN.VX), these people said. Barclays rose 0.7% to $14.98, as RBS increased 0.7% to $11.84, HSBC rose 0.6% to $53.07 and UBS rose 1.3% to $17.65.
