Vycor Medical, Inc. ("Vycor") (OTCBB: VYCO), a medical device company with a suite of FDA cleared products, announced that U.S. patent #12/545719, which relates to its ViewSite™ Brain Access System ("VBAS"), has been issued.

The claims of this patent cover methods for accessing a surgical worksite in a patient's brain using a transparent nested introducer/retractor assembly. The inventive method involves visualizing the brain tissue through the introducer and retractor assembly while the assembly is being advanced, permitting the surgeon to precisely direct movement to the surgical site and identify and address conditions that may exist or arise before the assembly is fully-inserted.

The addition of this patent brings Vycor's total patent portfolio to 35 issued and 20 pending. The Vycor Medical division now has 6 issued patents and 10 patents pending, while its NovaVision division has 29 issued patents and 10 patents pending. Vycor's Management believes that its significant patent portfolio is of strategic importance and believes it will help drive future revenues and underpin the Company's valuation.

VBAS is a suite of clear cylindrical disposable devices which provide neurosurgeons a stable, minimally invasive working channel to access targeted sites within the brain, such as tumors. The "blade retractor" has been the standard of care device for brain access and retraction for more than 50 years. VBAS is now approved in over 100 hospitals in the U.S. and the number continues to grow. To date, more than 4,000 surgeries have been performed utilizing VBAS. Vycor has a clear plan to continue to drive VBAS adoption with a goal of having the VBAS device become the new "Standard of Care" for brain access and retraction.
