German new car registrations rose nearly 3% on the year in June, due to positive consumer sentiment and higher demand for Diesel cars, international vehicle manufacturing association VDIK said Tuesday.
MAIN FACTS:
-New car registrations amounted to 296.000 units in June.
-For the January to June period, new car registrations were up close to 1% on the year at 1.6 million units. Of this, 780,000 vehicles were Diesel cars, a rise of 5% on the year.
-However, incoming orders have fallen on the year, VDIK said, and doesn't expect growth in the second half of the year.
-"I however expect that the car market will be relatively stable," VDIK president Volker Lange added.
