VANCOUVER, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Roca Mines Inc. (TSX-V: ROK) ("Roca") is proud to announce that the MAX Molybdenum Mine has won the 2009 Mining and Sustainability Award, presented by the Honourable Randy Hawes, Minister of State for Mining, and Pierre Gratton, President of the Mining Association of British Columbia.

The award recognizes commitment to mining and mineral development that meets the growing needs of all communities while maintaining a healthy environment and vibrant economy for present and future generations. Scott Broughton, President and CEO of Roca accepted the award on behalf of all employees, contractors, suppliers, local communities and management who have all helped to make the mine a success. Roca also thanks the Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources and the Ministry of Environment for their ongoing support of the MAX Molybdenum Mine.

Roca is also pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Robert W. Chambers, P.Eng. to the position of Vice President, Environment and Sustainability. He will be responsible for environmental and development planning for all of Roca's operations and project sites. Mr. Chambers is a geotechnical engineer with over 20 years experience in site assessment, design and environmental aspects of tailings, mine rock and water management for mining projects. He has worked on projects in British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, United States, Mexico, PerĂº, Chile, Indonesia, Ireland, Slovakia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.

Mr. Chambers has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Geological Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Chambers is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
