LEIPSIC, Ohio, Jan. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- PRO-TEC Coating Company, a 50/50 joint venture between United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) and Kobe Steel, Ltd., of Japan, announced today that Richard E. Veitch has been named the president of PRO-TEC Coating Company. This change is effective January 18, 2016. Veitch succeeds Brent Rosebrook, vice president of finance and administration, who had been serving as acting president since Bryan Vaughn's retirement in June 2015.

Veitch most recently served as general manager of U. S. Steel Granite City Works in Granite City, Ill. PRO-TEC is a provider of world-class coated flat-rolled steel primarily to the quality-critical automotive industry.

Veitch began his career at U. S. Steel in 1981 as a co-op student employee in the hot strip mill at Gary Works in Gary, Ind. After completing his undergraduate degree in 1985, he joined the company full time, serving as a turn foreman in Gary Works' cold rolling mill. Veitch progressed through managerial positions in several areas of the facility's finishing operations before joining National Steel in 1996.

Following U. S. Steel's acquisition of National Steel in 2003, Veitch was named division manager of sheet products for the Midwest Plant, National's finishing facility in Portage, Ind. Later that year, he was named plant manager of Mon Valley Works' Irvin Plant, where he was responsible for all rolling and finishing operations at the suburban Pittsburgh facility as well as the galvanizing line at Mon Valley Works' Fairless Plant near Philadelphia.

In 2006, Veitch advanced to vice president – operations at U. S. Steel Kosice and oversaw all day-to-day activities at the company's facilities in the Slovak Republic. He was appointed vice president and general director – U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o., the company's Serbian subsidiary with operations, in 2007 and was responsible for all aspects of U. S. Steel's three Serbian operations in Smederevo, Sabac and Kucevo. 

In March of 2009, Veitch was named general manager at the Granite City plant. While at the St. Louis-area plant, he oversaw the company's operations. The plant has an annual raw steelmaking capability of 2.9 million net tons. 

A native of New Kensington, Pa., Veitch attended Purdue UniversityLafayette (Ind.) for both his undergraduate and graduate studies, earning his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1985 and his master's degree in management in 1992.

Veitch and his wife, Kathy, will relocate to northwest Ohio.
