AT&T Inc. said Monday that it will begin offering bundled TV and wireless phone services, less than a month after the company closed its acquisition of DirecTV.
For $200 a month starting Aug. 10, AT&T plans to offer high-definition and DVR service for up to four TV receivers, unlimited talk and text for four wireless lines, and 10 gigabytes of shareable wireless data. The offer will be available nationwide, the company said.
AT&T's $49 billion purchase of DirecTV created the largest U.S. pay-television company, and for AT&T, the deal is key to its effort to diversify away from the U.S. wireless business.
The company, seeking to attract DirecTV customers to its wireless service and compel its own customers to add TV services, is offering customers who combine TV services with eligible wireless services a $10-a-month discount. DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse customers who switch to AT&T wireless services from another provider will be eligible for a $300 bill credit, the company said.
