LONDON and NEW YORK, March 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Executives and companies from 18 countries have been selected as finalists for the fifth annual Platts Global Metals Awards, which recognize exemplary accomplishments in 15 categories, according to program host S&P Global Platts, the leading independent provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets.
Murray Fisher, Platts Global Metals Awards organizer, said: "While the metals and mining outlook is getting brighter, its participants have had to weather a tumultuous storm. This year's finalists reflect a more efficient, innovative and globalized industry that continues to rise to the challenge. We congratulate each of the individual and corporate finalists of the Platts Global Metals Awards for their respective and collective achievements."
Competitive tensions are high this year, with the prestigious CEO of Year award to be hotly contested between 10 finalists from 7 different countries.
"The increased interest in several specific categories such as Deal of the Year, Service Provider of the Year and this year's inaugural Industry Leadership Award for Precious Metals, all point to an interesting and possibly surprising awards ceremony ahead," said Fisher.
Winners, to be selected by the program's independent panel of judges, will come from the list of finalists in each individual awards category. But the 2017 Metals Company of the Year will be chosen from the entire list of finalists.
The 2017 Platts Global Metals Awards winners will be unveiled at a black-tie dinner on May 18 at the Marriott Grosvenor Square in London. For the fourth consecutive year, the Awards will be emceed by CNBC's Karen Tso, well-known to Australian, Singaporean and European television audiences for her long coverage of the metals and mining sectors.
Awards attendance is open to those in the public and private sectors, corporate and industry representatives, and accredited media, with advance registration. Television cameras are welcome.
The 2017 Platts Global Metals Awards program is sponsored by NewSteel. For sponsorship opportunities and information, contact Neil Roberts at +44 20 7176 7638.
