ATLANTA, Nov. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The latest Vogtle Timeline video is now available from Georgia Power, showcasing progress and recent events at the Vogtle nuclear expansion during the third quarter of 2016.  The construction of Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 is state's largest job-producing construction project with more than 6,000 construction workers on site now and 800 permanent jobs once the new units begin operation. Once all four units are online, Plant Vogtle is expected to generate more electricity than any other U.S. nuclear facility, enough to power more than one million homes and businesses.

Now available on Georgia Power's YouTube Channel, the third-quarter timeline video highlights:

  • Achievement of key project milestones including assembly of the squib valves for both units, the placement of the 2 million-pound Unit 4 CA20 module in August and the setting of the roof trusses for the Unit 3 turbine building, bringing the building to its final height of 254 feet.
  • A commitment to safety and quality across the construction site, including more than 25 million safe work hours (without a lost time accident) logged since December 2014.
  • Preparations for transition to operations of the new units such as members of the first training class of nuclear operators passing the initial licensing exam by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), as well as insights on the training process from Derrick Trafford, shift support supervisor.
  • Unanimous approval of the 14th Vogtle Construction Monitoring Report by the Georgia Public Service Commission.
  • The impact of Plant Vogtle on the local community, such as a recent Stuff the Bus program which provided donated backpacks and school supplies to 600 children in Burke County Schools. The video also captures interviews with local educators sharing their perspectives on the impact of Plant Vogtle in area classrooms every day.

In addition to the timeline video, Georgia Power has posted its latest aerial flyover video of the construction site featuring up close, high definition views of the nuclear islands, including the containment areas, and the turbine islands.
