In fact, home design expert and “Property Brother” Jonathan Scott says that cleaning is the very first step to making a house a home. And, according to the latest Swiffer Cleaning Index, 70 percent of Americans say it’s important to be able to maintain the “clean slate” that comes with moving to a new home1. That’s why Jonathan’s partnered with Swiffer and Mr. Clean to share with movers his advice on how to maintain a clean slate.

“I’ve never heard a client say, ‘When I move into a new home, I want it to feel like a grimy bathroom.’ They always want it to sparkle,” said Scott. “That’s why my No. 1 step to making a house a home is getting a clean slate. But then how do you keep things looking like new? For me, it’s by keeping products like Swiffer WetJet and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser nearby,” said Jonathan.

To announce this partnership, Jonathan hosted a “Clean Slate” workshop today in NYC where he debuted his brand-new video entitled, “Jonathan Scott's 5 Tips for a Clean Slate When Moving Into a New House.” These tips are great for those who have recently moved or those looking to maintain that clean slate appearance in their home. In the video, Jonathan demonstrates some of his favorite Clean Slate tips using his trademark humor.

Jonathan enthusiastically demonstrated a few other tried-and-true tips at the event, including:

  • Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Maintaining a clean home is all about developing good habits. Make a point to clean up any messes as soon as they happen, even if you’re pressed for time. Keeping your all-in-one cleaning supplies nearby will make all the difference. Use a self-adhesive hook to hang your Swiffer WetJet in a hallway or bathroom closet so you can quickly break up and dissolve tough messes. And for everyday spills, store a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser under your sink or in a pretty soap dish on the countertop for easy access.
  • Kitchen Catastrophes: Finding the perfect spot for everything in your kitchen takes time. Don’t be afraid to rearrange cabinets and drawers as you start to get used to your new space. And don’t worry about any spills that happen in the process. Swiffer WetJet can handle the sticky messes on the floor. And for messes inside your cabinets (think leaky maple syrup!), grab a Magic Eraser Extra Power to easily wipe them away.
  • No Shoes, No Problem: Between the movers, the kids, and the dogs, your floor is going to take a beating on move-in day. Don’t stress, because Swiffer WetJet traps and locks dirt so it doesn’t get pushed around, giving your floors a powerful clean. After the chaos subsides, put a few pairs of shoes in a decorative basket by your front door so everyone remembers to take theirs off before touring your new home.
