Malaysia has signed an agreement to procure a Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. to immunize 6.4 million of its citizens.
A planned 12.8 million doses of the vaccine will be supplied in four batches through 2021, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Friday.
He said the government has also signed another agreement with the COVAX Facility to procure enough vaccines for 10% of the country's population.
The COVAX Facility is a mechanism established by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and the World Health Organization to provide early access to Covid-19 candidate vaccines.
Mr. Muhyiddin said the government will also conduct the third phase of a clinical test for a Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences via a government-to-government initiative with China.
He said this clinical test in Malaysia involving 3,000 participants will commence in December, and assured that it will be conducted in compliance with the Ministry of Health's guidelines.
