Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) said its missile-defense system simultaneously knocked out two cruise missiles during a flight test.
"Today's test demonstrates that [the integrated battle command system] is achieving unprecedented performance in defeating multiple missile threats," said Dan Verwiel, vice president of missile defense and protective systems at Northrop Grumman, in prepared remarks.
In conjunction with the U.S. Army, the flight test was conducted at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, where two cruise-missile surrogates were launched. The missiles took a maneuvering pattern and then split off as they neared their separate targets. The defense-missile system was able to detect, track and intercept both missiles, Northrop Grumman said.
Shares of Northrop Grumman, which have gained 41% this year, slipped 0.6% to $346.47 on Thursday.
