Among the companies with shares expected to actively trade in Friday's session are TripAdvisor Inc. (TRIP), Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) and LinkedIn Corp. (LNKD).

TripAdvisor's third-quarter earnings rose 9.3% as the hotel-reviews site reported broad-based revenue growth. Shares jumped 19% to $35.10 premarket as results topped analyst expectations.

Starbucks said its profit edged up in the latest quarter, beating estimates, as it took promotional measures to draw in customers. Shares were up 8.7% to $50.60 premarket.

LinkedIn swung to a profit and posted an 81% jump in revenue for the third quarter, underscoring how the professional social network's growth is continuing even as other newly public Internet companies struggle. Shares rose 8.1% to $115.52 premarket after the company's results beat estimates and raised its full-year revenue guidance.

Active Network Inc.'s (ACTV) third-quarter loss widened as the technology and media company recorded growing expenses. Shares slumped 30% in premarket trading to $6.50 as the company said it expects to incur net losses in the current quarter, in the full year, and in 2013.

Priceline.com Inc. (PCLN) third-quarter earnings rose 27% as a slowdown in Europe hotel business wasn't as bad as the online travel agent had feared. Shares climbed 11% to $649.03 premarket.

Following UK-based drug maker GlaxoSmithKline Plc's (GSK, GSK.LN) third-quarter update, Barclays cut its price target to 1510p from 1545p, saying continued negative surprise in the still-important and troubled European business has grabbed more investor attention than growth potential elsewhere. American depositary shares fell 3.2% to $43.42 premarket.

First Solar Inc.'s (FSLR) third-quarter earnings fell 55% amid restructuring charges as the solar-panel maker's revenue declined on project-specific impacts. Shares were down 6.5% at $23.15 premarket as revenue missed analyst estimates.

Guess Inc. (GES) said two senior executives, including its chief financial officer, are leaving the company to pursue other interests. Jefferies downgraded the stock to hold from buy, saying in a note to clients that "clearly (the) management departure announcements are significant, leadership is in flux, the brand is under pressure in the U.S., and international risks remain." Shares dropped 10% in premarket trading to $23.25.

Prospect Capital Corp. (PSEC) is offering 35 million shares as the investment company seeks to repay its debt or invest in short-term debt instruments. It recently had around 174.5 million shares outstanding. Shares fell 8% to $10.97 in premarket trading.

Glu Mobile Inc.'s (GLUU) third-quarter loss narrowed as the mobile game maker's smartphone and "freemium" revenues improved. However, shares fell 17% to $2.70 premarket as the company offered downbeat guidance for the current quarter.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (VRTX) shares slip 7.3% to $46.80 premarket after the company reported weaker-than-expected third-quarter results. Citing the results and the recent NACFC conference, Goldman Sachs lowered its rating on the stock to sell from neutral. The investment bank said in a note to clients that it has a more cautious outlook on the company's key pipeline program and see a limited number of catalysts heading into 2013.

AES Corp. (AES) said it will consolidate its operations under one chief operating officer as the power and utilities company continues to cut costs. AES also disclosed an impairment charge of up to $2 billion related to its acquisition last year of DPL Inc.

AptarGroup Inc. (ATR) third-quarter profit fell 15% as the dispenser maker unveiled a plan to streamline its operations in Europe.

Arch Capital Group Ltd.'s (ACGL) third-quarter earnings jumped 12% as the insurance and reinsurance company's net premiums written increased. Results topped analyst expectations.

Atmel Corp.'s (ATML) third-quarter earnings slumped 81% as the chip maker recorded lower revenue, although the year-earlier period had included a gain from the sale of its former corporate headquarters.

Blucora Inc. (BCOR) swung to a third-quarter loss as sharply higher input costs wiped away a substantial rise in revenue.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc.'s (BKD) third-quarter loss widened as the retirement-home operator's increased expenses outpaced revenue growth.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK) swung to a third-quarter loss as the natural gas producer recorded a massive write-down on properties, and revenue declined.

DDR Corp. (DDR) swung to a third-quarter profit as the real-estate investment trust benefited from new leases and renewals and slightly higher rents.

Third-quarter earnings for DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. (DWA) climbed significantly over the same period last year, thanks largely to the strong international performance of "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted."

Dresser-Rand Group Inc.'s (DRC) third-quarter earnings rose 2.2% as the equipment maker benefited from lower input costs, though revenue also decreased.

Edison International's (EIX) third-quarter earnings slid 51% amid losses at the utility company's wholesale power-generation unit and rising costs at the troubled San Onofre nuclear power plant.

Eloqua Inc. (ELOQ) is launching an offering of six million shares by selling stockholders. Eloqua, a marketing-software provider, recently had around 34 million shares outstanding.

Federal Realty Investment Trust's (FRT) third-quarter earnings fell 18% from a year-earlier period that had included a gain from the sale of real estate, while revenue increased.

Fluor Corp.'s (FLR) third-quarter earnings rose 6.8% as the engineering and construction company recorded higher revenue at four of its five business segments.

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.'s (HIG) third-quarter profit soared as the insurer benefited from a lack of natural disasters.

HollyFrontier Corp. (HFC) on Thursday raised its quarterly dividend 33% and also unveiled an additional special payout of 50 cents per share, the refiner's latest moves to reward investors.

Home Properties Inc.'s (HME) third-quarter earnings surged as the apartment real-estate investment trust posted $19.7 million in asset-sale gains along with double-digit revenue growth.

Las Vegas Sands Corp.'s (LVS) third-quarter profit fell 18% as the casino operator reported higher operating expenses, masking growing revenue from its Macau and Las Vegas operations.

Lincoln National Corp.'s (LNC) third-quarter earnings more than doubled in comparison with last year, when a steep realized loss weighed on the life-insurance and annuity company's results. Its revenue also improved in the latest period.

RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd.'s (RNR) third-quarter earnings more than tripled as the insurer recorded significant investment income, compared with investment losses the year earlier.

Republic Services Inc. (RSG) third-quarter earnings fell 21% as the company reported revenue declines as lower volume and other impacts offset the benefit of higher core prices.

Rock-Tenn Co.'s (RKT) fiscal fourth-quarter profit slipped 1.9% as the paper-and-packaging company's revenue and production weakened.

Rovi Corp. (ROVI) swung to a third-quarter loss as the entertainment data and technology company said its revenue from consumer electronics customers weakened. However, adjusted profits easily topped analyst expectations.

Southwestern Energy Co. (SWN) swung to a third-quarter loss on large impairment charges to its natural gas and oil properties due to lower natural gas prices, although results beat Wall Street expectations.

SunPower Corp.'s (SPWR) third-quarter loss narrowed as the U.S.-based solar panel maker recorded fewer impairment charges, though revenue weakened.

Apartment real-estate investment trust UDR Inc. (UDR) said Hurricane Sandy appears at this time to have inflicted minimal damage on the company's Mid-Atlantic portfolio, though some New York City properties were hit.

Vornado Realty Trust's (VNO) third-quarter profit surged as the commercial-property owner reported fewer losses on investments, and improving core results.

WebMD Health Corp. (WBMD) swung to a modest third-quarter loss as the health-information provider's public portal advertising and sponsorship revenue dropped 15%.
