Siemens CEO Won't Attend Saudi Investment Forum

Siemens AG's (SIE.XE) Chief Executive Joe Kaeser on Monday said he won't attend Saudi Arabia's Future Investment Initiative, becoming the latest corporate leader to drop out of the conference in the wake of journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death.

Mr. Kaeser set out his reasons for not attending the event in an extended blog post on Linkedin, noting that he had received hundreds of emails and social media posts urging him not to go.

The veteran CEO reaffirmed Siemens's commitment to the country and said it would continue to support the kingdom's Vision 2030 infrastructure investment plan, but said he wouldn't be able to attend the event until authorities find out what really happened.

"We in Germany should know from our history what it can lead to if people stay out of trouble and don't speak up till it is too late," he said.

Several other high profile public figures, including U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon, have already pulled out of the conference.
