International Business Machines Corp. said it has launched its first Quantum education and research initiative for historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) on Thursday, in an effort to propel a more diverse and inclusive quantum workforce.
The IBM-HBCU Quantum Center will provide students of 13 HBCUs, including Howard University, Morgan State University, Morehouse College and others, access to quantum computers as well as collaboration opportunities through academic, education and community outreach programs.
The company describes the center as a multi-year investment with the goal to prepare and develop talent at HBCUs from all science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.
IBM also will invest $100 million in the IBM Skills Academy Academic Initiative with the aim to bring technology, assets, resources and skills development to students at additional HBCUs through partnerships.
