LAS VEGAS, Oct. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today introduced significant advances in its industry leading database software, IBM DB2, helping companies lower their operating costs while bringing together transactions and analytics in the same database to increase the speed of real-time data analysis. The new DB2 will incorporate hybrid transactional analytical processing (HTAP) available for Linux, Unix, Windows, and z/OS in December.

In contrast to typical business environments where transaction processing and analytical systems are based on distinct architectures, hybrid transactional analytical processing (HTAP) runs analytics and transactions on the same database without compromising performance of either.

IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration for Linux, Unix, Windows will incorporate features of HTAP in December by enabling up to 2x faster insert performance for transactional processing in analytical databases. Up to 60% reduction in query elapsed time will deliver real-time data analysis for applications like fraud detection and point of sale marketing actions.

IBM DB2 12 for z/OS extends the benefits of HTAP with advanced in-memory capabilities to deliver improvements in real-time analytic processing by up to 100 times over DB2 11 for z/OS.  IBM is also introducing the DB2 Analytics Accelerator for Cloud, providing enterprise customers even more flexibility to accelerate insights gained from their DB2 environments leveraging the IBM Cloud.

"IBM DB2 12 is at the leading edge in allowing us to build mobile applications faster and more securely. We are able to better provide our customers with services they need to access the data stored in their databases," says Frank Peterson, Chief Architect at Bankdata.

"IBM is enabling our clients to unlock more value from their data, by delivering real-time insights at the point of customer interaction," said Rob Thomas, Vice President of Product Development, IBM Analytics. "Customers can now extend their existing investments to capitalize on the capabilities that HTAP provides."

Client feedback was critical in the development of DB2 12, with IBM taking an agile approach and continuous delivery model. DB2 12 for z/OS was built for the growth of cloud and mobile, supporting hundreds of thousands of transactions per second across mobile applications with no impact on operational performance. This enables companies to deliver a better, faster, personalized experience to consumer mobile applications.
