The union representing 1,700 workers at three General Motors Co. plants in Canada on Thursday said its bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement with the auto maker, averting a strike.
Unifor, the Canadian union, said it is recommending employees at GM plants in St. Catharines, Oshawa and Woodstock accept the deal, adding that union president Jerry Dias will provide more details at a press conference slated for 10 a.m. ET.
The union's contract with GM expired Wednesday, but Unifor extended its strike deadline. The union has already negotiated new labor agreements with Ford Motor Co. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
