Unison Industries announced that it has been selected by Textron Aviation, a Textron Inc (NYSE: TXT) company, to provide additively manufactured air-air heat exchangers for the new Cessna Denali high performance single engine turboprop. With a maximum occupancy of 11, the clean sheet Denali single engine turboprop will be powered by GE Aviation’s Advanced Turboprop Engine and is targeted to achieve first flight in 2018.

Unison’s additive air-air heat exchanger is an industry first, and is part of GE’s $1 billion investment and commitment to the advancement of additive manufacturing. Unison’s additive air-air heat exchanger increases reliability through elimination of braze joints, offers reduced weight and volume, and the ability to be manufactured conformal to the application so all angles are rendered with true shape.

“Being awarded this contract for the Cessna Denali reflects the confidence Textron Aviation places in Unison’s additive technology and capability and the benefits it will bring to the Denali customers,” said Giovanni Spitale, president of Unison Industries. “The air-air heat exchanger is just the beginning – we are investing heavily in additive technology. We have other heat exchangers that form the foundation of our new additive product family and continue the advancement of our additive product line for the aviation industry.”
