GE Healthcare said Friday it is buying a Swedish start-up that focuses on photon counting detectors.
General Electric Co.'s healthcare business didn't disclose financial terms of the deal agreement to buy the company, called Prismatic Sensors AB. It already owns a minority stake in the firm. GE Healthcare said it expects the deal to close by January.
"We believe this technology has the potential to be a substantial step forward for CT imaging to establish a new standard of care and eventually improve clinical outcomes for millions of patients worldwide, " GE Healthcare President and Chief Executive Kieran Murphy said in prepared remarks.
GE Healthcare said the U.S. logged 91.4 million estimated CT scans last year, which was a volume high.
