Chevron Corp. on Wednesday reported a fire in the storage tank area of its Pasadena, Texas refinery that caused excessive gas emissions before being extinguished.
In a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Chevron said the fire happened Tuesday morning inside the refinery's tank farm.
The fire caused the release of more than 8,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide and more than 3,000 pounds of nitrogen oxides before emergency crews were able to extinguish it and end the emissions, the company said.
The 110,000-barrel-a-day refinery, which Chevron bought from Brazil's state-controlled Petrobras a year ago, is located in the Houston area.
