NORTHBROOK, Ill., Aug. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- To kick off the 14th year of supporting college football and its fans across the country, Allstate Insurance Company (NYSE: ALL) is uncovering just how far passionate football supporters are willing to go for their favorite teams. In a recent survey, the insurance brand polled more than 1,500 college football fans to uncover what fictional mayhem they were willing to endure to see their team raise the national championship trophy at the end of the 2018 College Football season. The results revealed the emotional vulnerabilities that come with college football fandom, which are at an all-time high when our favorite teams hit the gridiron.
How passionate are college football fans? Consider these responses:
"At Allstate we share the enthusiasm college football fans have for their teams, and we know how emotions can run high during big games," said Dan Keats, Director of Sponsorship Marketing for Allstate. "There really is no telling what mayhem lies in store this season – that's the beauty of the sport. What we do know is the same unpredictability we see on the field can happen off the field, and that's why we continue to put fans first and support the college football community no matter what is thrown their way."
No one knows mayhem better than ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who once again will be teaming up with Allstate to help celebrate the moments of high emotion and unpredictability that make college football so exciting for its fans.
"I was shocked to hear one in four fans would be okay with a flooded basement if it meant a win for their team," Herbstreit said. "It speaks volumes to the enthusiasm fans share for the sport, and I suppose I also fall in that camp. A little mayhem won't get in the way of celebrating a national championship."
While the mayhem unfolding on the gridiron this season may be unpredictable, Allstate remains committed to unifying the college football community and highlighting the good taking place off the field. With the help of Herbstreit and other prominent members of the college football community, Allstate will be giving back to loyal fans and students across the country. These efforts will start with a community project ahead of the University of Florida vs. University of Kentucky game, where Allstate volunteers will come together to support the local community.
In addition to community projects, Allstate will again support their "Good Hands®" Field Goal Nets program. For more than a decade, these iconic nets have been raised at college football stadiums across the country. This year, the University of Kansas and the University of Oregon will join a roster of 91 other colleges and universities in both the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and Division I Football Championship Subdivision. Since 2005, the program has contributed millions in collegiate scholarship funding to schools across the nation.
Two heritage executions, the Allstate Tailgate Tour and the Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®, will also be returning for the 2018 season. The Allstate Tailgate Tour will make stops at 44 college football games. At the tailgate, fans can participate in a variety of activities, including the chance to overcome mayhem firsthand in Allstate's QB Mayhem Challenge, a digital experience featuring Herbstreit that puts the player in the role of quarterback.
Finally, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, one of the most coveted off-the-field honors in the sport, will be announced and celebrated throughout the season. Established in 1992 to recognize a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to service, the 2018 program recently announced a grand total of 169 nominees from schools of all divisions across the country. The complete roster of 22 college football players and an honorary head coach will be announced in mid-September. The Good Works Team will also be invited to New Orleans for the 85th Allstate® Sugar Bowl®, where the team will be recognized on the field during halftime of the game.
