The challenge for all automotive suppliers is to understand each automaker's
design intent and brand image for each vehicle, then deliver innovative
technology quickly. Visteon is uniquely positioned to deliver fast and flexibly
on innovations that help a vehicle stand out from the crowd.
Premium Audio for the all-new 2005 Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee
Visteon's premium-branded speaker and amplifier system, developed in less than
24 months with its partner, Boston Acoustics Inc. (NASDAQ:BOSA), will be
available on the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Visteon and Boston Acoustics worked
to combine Boston's audiophile speakers and acoustical know-how with Visteon's
electronic, digital signal processing technology and in-car expertise to bring
"The Boston Sound(TM)" to another vehicle in the Chrysler Group lineup. The
Boston Acoustics system also is available on the 2005 Chrysler 300 and the 2005
Dodge Magnum.
Chassis Innovation that reduces weight and improves safety
The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee also will feature a Visteon patented chassis
innovation that will make the vehicle safer, quieter and improve its fuel
economy by reducing weight. Visteon's aluminum Slip-in-Tube Propshaft is
designed so two pieces of the propshaft plunge into one another, eliminating the
need forthe slip and stud yokes typically required with conventional
propshafts. The design solved vehicle NVH issues that competitor products could
not by taking advantage of Slip-in-Tube's inherent higher stiffness, lower mass
and superior damping characteristics, enabling the new Grand Cherokee to be
quieter than its replacement.
Improving vehicle handling on Chevrolet Equinox
Visteon's chassis engineering expertise is illustrated on the all-wheel- drive
system found on the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. All-wheel drive systems can deliver
torque to all four wheels in a way that maximizes traction and driver control.
Visteon's all-wheel-drive improves ride-and-handling, durability and reduces
noise, vibration and harshness.
Visteon contributes to powertrain, engine cooling and navigation system on
Hybrid Escape
Ford Motor Co. will introduce the 2005 Hybrid Escape in New York, and Visteon
played an important role in key modules and systems of Ford's first
hybrid-electric vehicle. These include the front-end cooling module, which
integrates three heat exchangers within existing package space. A low
temperature radiator assures motor electronics are kept cool. A hi-capacity
condenser, along with the latest in thin radiators, assures all cooling
functions: engine cooling, electronics cooling and battery cooling. A battery
chiller maintains optimum battery cell temperature to maximize efficiency and
life. The powertrain control module analyzes sensor signals to make
instantaneous decisions to optimize powertrain performance, fuel economy and
emissions.
Visteon also supplies the navigation head unit. The Visteon Navigation Radio
integrates an audiophile radio with a navigation system in a single box with a
3.8-inch by 5-inch screen. The VNR provides accurate route guidance with
graphic and voice directions. The Hybrid Escape's Navigation Radio has special
screens for monitoring energy flow and fuel economy. They allow the driver to
see the energy direction and intensity through easy-to-understand icons for the
engine, battery and electric motor.
