SonoSite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO) the world leader and specialist in
hand-carried ultrasound for the point-of-care, today announced the
appointment of Richard O. Martin, PhD., to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Martin served as President of Medtronic Physio Control Corporation
from 1998 until his retirement in 2001. Prior to its acquisition by
Medtronic in 1998, Dr. Martin was Chairman and CEO of Physio Control
Corporation. He also held several senior executive positions in
engineering, marketing and sales with Intermedics, Inc., a manufacturer
and marketer of cardiac pacemakers and other biomedical products before
being named President and COO of that company in 1985. From 1989 to
1990, Dr. Martin also served as Director, President and COO of Positron
Corporation, a leading manufacturer of positron emission tomography
(PET) systems specializing in cardiology, oncology and neurology
applications.

Dr. Martin was Chairman of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association
from 1996 to 1998, and served as the AeA’s
National Chairman from 2000 to 2001. He is currently a member of the
boards of CardioDynamics International Corporation (Nasdaq:CDIC),
Cardiac Dimensions, Prescient Medical, Inovice Medical and PetDRx
Corporation. Dr. Martin received his bachelor’s
degree in electrical engineering from Christian Brothers College, a
master’s degree in electrical engineering from
the University of Notre Dame, and a doctorate in Electrical/Biomedical
Engineering from Duke University.
