Facebook Inc.'s global head of safety, Antigone Davis, said her company wouldn't retaliate against the individual who provided senators with internal company research but stopped short of committing to wider immunity.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) repeatedly pressed Ms. Davis about protecting what he called a whistleblower who is scheduled to testify at a Senate hearing next week. "Will you commit there will be no legal actions based on the disclosure of the whistleblower's documents?" the senator asked.
The person provided thousands of pages of documents to senators that helped prompt Thursday's hearing.
Ms. Davis said Facebook wouldn't take legal action related to the person furnishing documents to the Senate. "I'm aware that there are rules in terms of the Senate, and we will comply with those rules," Ms. Davis said. "We've committed to not retaliating for them coming to the Senate."
