General Motors and Google Cloud said they have struck a deal to bring conversational artificial intelligence to GM vehicles and to explore future possible use cases for generative AI.
GM said its OnStar Interactive Virtual Assistant has been powered by Google Cloud's conversational AI tech since its 2022 launch. The assistant can give members responses to basic questions as well as routing assistance.
"Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the buying, ownership and interaction experience inside the vehicle and beyond," said Mike Abbott, GM's executive vice president of software and services.
GM and Google Cloud, owned by Alphabet, have been working together to integrate some of Google's technology, including Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play, into GM's vehicles since 2019, the companies said.
"General Motors is at the forefront of deploying AI in practical and effective ways," Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said. "We're looking forward to a deepened relationship."
