LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. -- Alphabet Inc.'s Google plans to double its workforce in New York City to more than 14,000 employees over the next 10 years, its chief financial officer said.
Speaking at The Wall Street Journal's WSJ Tech D.Live conference on Monday, Ruth Porat said the company is racing to add talent and expand its staff outside its Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, including in offices in Los Angeles and Detroit.
Google is nearing a deal to buy or lease a planned 1.3 million-square-foot office building at St. John's Terminal in the city's West Village neighborhood, the Journal reported last week. The building, planned to be completed by 2022, would give Google space for more than 8,500 staff, based on the industry standard of 150 square feet per employee.
More to come.
